SOUTH POINT, Ohio Ƶ Wearing mismatched socks is a popular trend for high school girls.
Saratina Jackson is a mismatch in her own right. The South Point High School girls basketball standout signed with Shawnee State University where she hopes to befuddle opponents inside and outside the 3-point arc.
ƵEveryone said the like me because IƵm a mismatch,Ƶ Jackson said of the Bears, Indiana Tech and Bethany College. ƵThey like it I can shoot 3-pointers and the post players have to come out and try to guard me, but when IƵm in the post IƵm quick enough against the bigger players trying to guard me.Ƶ
Jackson averaged 11.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists last season as the Pointers went 11-12. She scored 900 points and grabbed 500 rebounds in her career.
ƵSheƵd have scored 1,000 if she hadnƵt had some injuries,Ƶ Pointers coach David Adams said of Jackson. SheƵs a heck of a player. SheƵs talented and can play inside or outside.Ƶ
Jackson said Shawnee State Ƶfelt like home.Ƶ She added that SSU being just 39 miles away will make seeing her play easier for family and friends.Ƶ
Jackson, who counts drawing and painting among her hobbies, has played multiple sports. Basketball is her favorite.
ƵI used to play on a little mini-basketball hoop in the house when I was little,Ƶ Jackson said, with a laugh. ƵIƵve worked hard to get here.Ƶ
Jackson said sheƵll major in health sciences with the goal of becoming a doctor.
