Poca native and Virginia sniper Isaac McKneely announced that he will be transferring from the University of Virginia to Louisville on Thursday via his social media accounts.
McKneely, a 6-foot-4 guard, visited Louisville and Tennessee before his decision. He joins Adrian Wooley and Ryan Conwell as early commits for the Cardinals and coach Pat Kelsey.
McKneely was arguably the best shooter in the transfer portal. He led UVA with 14.4 points per game and was the ACCòòò½ÊÓƵ™s best 3-point shooter at 42.1%. He made over three 3s per game as he shot 43.6% and scored 15.4 points per game in conference.
McKneely was a 1,000 point scorer at UVA, securing the mark earlier this season. He has a career high of seven made 3-pointers in a game and has a career high of 29 points. His best game in the 2024-25 season came against Georgia Tech in the final game of the season.
He scored 27 points. McKneely had eight games where he scored 20 or more last season, totaling 101 made 3-pointers.
McKneely joins a Louisville team that finished third in the ACC with an 18-2 conference record. The Cardinals reached the NCAA tournament and went 27-8 overall, losing in the first round against No. 9 Creighton.
In his high school career, McKneely was a two-time West Virginia Gatorade Player of the Year and won the West Virginia Sports Writers òòò½ÊÓƵsociationòòò½ÊÓƵ™s Bill Evans Award twice as the stateòòò½ÊÓƵ™s best player.
He led Poca to a Class AA state title while averaging 22 points, six rebounds, four assists, a steal and a block as a senior. MaxPreps also awarded McKneely with their West Virginia Small Town Player of the Year award.
McKneely was a three-time all-state first teamer, named to the second team as a freshman.
