MORGANTOWN òòò½ÊÓƵ” West Virginia University updated the online version of its 2025 football roster on Monday, and 24 players who had been with the team in this spring are no longer listed.
Those deletions could either have been the decision of the player to leave or the coaching staff might have urged them to depart.
Either way, coach Rich Rodriguez said all spring how much he disliked the NCAA rule requiring rosters be cut to 105 by the start of the season, and these latest deletions are the first part òòò½ÊÓƵ” though not necessarily the last òòò½ÊÓƵ” of that roster attrition.
Among those no longer on the Mountaineer football roster are: wide receiver Brandon Rehmann, running back Traeòòò½ÊÓƵ™von Dunbar, defensive back Chris Henry, defensive back Aden Tagaloa-Nelson, running back L.J. Turner, defensive back Sammy Etienne, bandit linebacker Obinna Onwuka, wide receiver Andrew Phares, defensive back Zah Jackson, linebacker Aydin Fleming, bandit linebacker Oryend Fisher, placekicker Casey Stanley, bandit linebacker Romando Johnson, punter Luke Savino, tight end Jackson Accuardi, defensive lineman Amir Leonard-Jean Charles, offensive lineman Justin Terry, offensive lineman Wesley Hancock, wide receiver T.J. Johnson, tight end Johnny Pascuzzi, wide receiver Dom Collins, defensive lineman Jonah Ulloa, defensive lineman Makai Byerson and defensive lineman Elijah Kinsler.
With the removal of these 24, the Mountaineers still have 85 players on their current roster, meaning at this point òòò½ÊÓƵU has room for 20 additions, though there could be more departures coming in the days and weeks ahead, creating additional roster space.
West Virginia is expected to add at least 10 more true freshmen this summer as well as two junior college transfers.
Thus, Rodriguez has availability for at least eight other summer additions (most are expected to be transfers), though itòòò½ÊÓƵ™s possible more departures could open up additional roster space before all is said and done.
