ESPN NFL Draft expert Mel Kiper predicted the New York Jets will select University of Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders with the seventh overall pick in the draft later this month.
Perhaps Kiper made that prediction because Sanders reminds him of another former Jets passer, former Marshall University star Chad Pennington.
ƵChad Pennington would probably be my comp for Shedeur,Ƶ Kiper said during a stint on Unsportsmanlike Radio. ƵI loved Chad coming out. I even had him top-five on the big board. He ended up going 18. He went 18 to the Jets.Ƶ
Pennington, a Heisman Trophy finalist, was the only quarterback selected in the 2000 NFL Draft. He played eight seasons with New York and three with Miami before retiring after the 2010 season with 17,823 passing yards, 102 touchdowns and 67 interceptions.
ƵHe had a really great career,Ƶ Kiper said of Pennington. ƵWas he a Hall of Famer? No. But could you get to a Super Bowl with Chad Pennington? Yeah, you could have if you had a supporting cast around him.Ƶ
Sanders is the son of Colorado coach and former NFL cornerback Deion Sanders. The younger Sanders figures to join MiamiƵs Cam Ward as a quarterback taken early in the draft.
