Many athletes from the region have found a home at Ohio athletic programs. Following is a look at six who competed last season:
ZACH BARTRUM, Ohio Dominican football, Meigs HS.
The son of former Marshall University and NFL player Mike Bartrum caught 19 passes for 208 yards and three touchdowns as a senior. He also made five tackles, three solo.
J.T. JAMES, Ohio Wesleyan football, Hurricane HS.
The 6-foot-2, 190-pound sophomore wide receiver played in six games, starting two. James caught seven passes for 56 yards and three touchdowns. He returned one kickoff for 14 yards and made one tackle. James caught two TD passes in a 37-0 victory over Oberlin.
DENA JARRELLS, Youngstown State basketball, Huntington St. Joe HS.
The 5-foot-7 senior guard transferred from Chattanooga and averaged 8.9 points, 3.7 assists and 2.2 steals per game. She made 75 of 91 free throws (82.4%), 116 of 319 field goal attempts (36.8%) and 105 of 310 3-pointers (33.9%). Jarrells started 17 of 30 games.
JORDAN JONES, Ohio University football, òòò½ÊÓÆµhland HS.
A 6-3, 297-pound redshirt freshman defensive tackle, Jones played in one game.
PAIGE SHY, Youngstown State basketball, Huntington St. Joe HS.
A 5-10 senior guard, Shy transferred from Marshall. She started 18 of 24 games in which she appeared, missing six with an injury. Shy averaged 7.7 points, 4.2 rebounds, 3.7 steals and 2.2 assists per game. She sank 205 of 612 shots for 33.5%, 125 of 411 3-point attempts for 30.4% and 104 of 133 foul shots for 78.2%.
AUSTIN WOMACK, Ohio Wesleyan football, Hurricane HS. The 6-3, 205-pound senior played in six games and started one. He completed 58 of 83 passes for 640 yards and six touchdowns, with three interceptions. Womack also punted once for 28 yards, dropping the kick inside the opponentsòòò½ÊÓÆµ™ 20-yard line. Against Wooster, Womack completed 25 of 29 passes for 273 yards and three touchdowns.
