ATHENS, Ohio òòò½ÊÓÆµ” Zane Trace (10-17) upset Ironton 4-2 in a Division V district semifinal high school softball game at Ohio University.
The Pioneers scored three runs in the first inning. Laynie Scott squeezed home Haylynn Boggess with the first run. Reagan Arthur walked to plate Maddie Will, and Carlie Clark drew a base on balls to bring in Brynn Wipert.
The Fighting Tigers (19-7) scored twice in the bottom of the seventh as Khamil Martin hit a home run.
Wipert, who went 2 for 2 with two doubles, allowed four hits, struck out nine and walked none to pick up the win. Boggess was 2 for 4 and Arthur 2 for 2.

CIRCLEVILLE 7, SOUTH POINT 5: The Tiger (10-14) outlasted the Pointers (14-9) in 12 innings in a Division IV district final that began Monday in Logan, Ohio, and finished Thursday in Jackson.
Claire Davis went 2 for 4 with a homer, three runs batted in, three walks and two runs scored for Circleville. Rylee Starner went 3 for 5 and Jenna Boring was 2 for 6. Winning pitcher Kayla Fleck went 3 for 6 and knocked in two runs.
SYMMES VALLEY 11, EASTERN MEIGS 2: Marley Ferguson was 3 for 4 with three RBIs as the Vikings walloped the Eagles in a Division VII district final in Rio Grande, Ohio.
Emma Ridenour was 3 for 4 with two RBIs. Lyndsey Freeman batted in two runs. Brenna Tibbs fanned 11 to earn the win. Tibbs also went 2 for 5 with three RBIs.
Symmes Valley moves on to the regional semifinals against either Lancaster Fisher Catholic or Newark Catholic at 5 p.m. Wednesday at a site to be announced.
Baseball
RIPLEY 8, HURRICANE 3: The host Vikings had twice the number of runs as they had hits in a tune-up game before next weekòòò½ÊÓÆµ™s region tournament finals by working seven walks and two hit-by-pitches off Hurricane pitching.
Hurricane took a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning, but Ripley chipped away and equalized in the fifth before hanging a 5-spot in the sixth.
Bryson Casto scored two runs for Ripley. He also started on the mound and was the first of three Vikings pitchers. Parker Keller, the last of them, got the decision, working two scoreless and hitless innings, with three strikeouts and two walks.
Bryson Shirkey was 2 for 3 for Hurricane. Kolten McKown was the losing pitcher of record.

Jones went 2 for 4. Braden Hankins earned the win.
Gallia Academy led 2-0 early. Bronx Carpenter scored on an error in the fourth inning to put Symmes Valley ahead 5-4.
Maddux Delaney went 2 for 3 with two RBIs for the Blue Devils.
