The junior pitched a perfect game and struck out 14 of the 21 batters she faced Wednesday as the Generals defeated Spring Valley 4-0.
Winfield scored three runs in the third inning and one in the fourth. Ava Cole went 2 for 2 and knocked in a run. Brooklyn Cole, Rylee McClellan and Carroll also drove in runs.

Watts also went 3 for 3 with a home run and a double. Watts knocked in four runs and struck out eight Huntington High batters.
Cabell Midland smacked 16 hits, three by Nicole Harris. Hayla Norris was 2 for 2, homered and drove in four runs. Becca Conrad, Kalissa Hess and Ellie McCormill whacked two hits apiece. McCormill knocked in a pair of runs.
ELK VALLEY CHRISTIAN 6, GRACE CHRISTIAN 0: Avery Evans fanned 15 to lead the Eagles by the Soldiers in the season opener for both teams in Elkview, West Virginia.
Evans pitched a two-hitter and walked none.
Elk Valley scored once in the second and third innings, and twice in the fourth and sixth, taking advantage of five Grace Christian errors.

Simpkins was 3 for 4 with two doubles and a triple. Savanna Henderson went 3 for 5 with a home run and four RBIs. Myla Hamilton was 2 for 4 with a homer and knocked in four.
Brooke Jacobs homered as part of a 3-for-4 performance and drove in a pair.
Lacyn Black was 2 for 3 with three RBIs. Grace Stephens was 2 for 4 with three RBIs.
Black was the winning pitcher in relief.
For East Carter, Stephany Tussey knocked in five runs, going 2 for 5 with a home run. Adriana Cordle was 2 for 2 with two doubles and four RBIs.
Trina Porter went 2 for 4 and knocked in two. Brynlee Walker lived up to her name, drawing four free passes.

Laine homered and drive in a pair of runs against the Wildcats (1-1). Duckwyler knocked in two runs. Winning pitcher Riley Harmon was 2 for 3 with a home run.
LAWRENCE COUNTY TAKES TWO: In Louisa, Kentucky, the Bulldogs knocked off Floyd Central 11-0 and Russell 9-0.
Taylor Blevins was the winning pitcher against the Jaguars. Emmalynn Kitts went 2 for 2 with two doubles and three RBIs.
Abby Maynard drove in three runs and Ella Smith knocked in two.
Bree Jones went 2 for 2.
Blevins whiffed 11 Red Devils in a three-hit shutout. She also smacked a three-run homer, as did Gracie Preece. Smith and Kitts each finished with two hits.

HURRICANE 4, SPRING VALLEY 2: Weston Smith excelled on the mound and at the plate in lifting the Redskins (1-0) over the Timberwolves (0-1) at Lola Meeks Field.
Smith, who has signed with West Virginia University, pitched a one-hitter, allowing two runs with eight strikeouts in six innings.
He didnòòò½ÊÓÆµ™t allow a hit until the seventh inning. Smith also went 2 for 3 with a pair of runs batted in.
Bryson Shirkey was 2 for 3 with two RBIs. Brady Rigney earned a save.
Hurricane took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Smith singled home Rigney.
Shirkey singled home Nick Fleece in the second and doubled to plate Aiden Ocheltree in the fourth.
Smithòòò½ÊÓÆµ™s base hit scored Shirkey to make it 4-0.
GREENUP COUNTY 7, WEST CARTER 1: Gavin Roy drove in a trio of runs, doubled and stole a base as the Musketeers opened with a triumph over the Comets (0-2) in Lloyd, Kentucky.
Kasey Gammon and Sawyer Hatfield each swiped two bases for Greenup County. Reliever Ty Logan was the winning pitcher.
FAIRVIEW 12, WEST CARTER 9: Tanner Reihs went 2 for 5 with two RBIs as the Eagles (1-0) topped the Comets in Olive Hill, Kentucky.
Xavien Kouns was 2 for 4 with two RBIs. Tevin Smith smashed three hits. Izaac Johnson earned the win in relief.
Tabor Tackett hit a three-run homer for West Carter. Jake Carter drove in two runs.
