PORTSMOUTH, Ohio òòò½ÊÓÆµ” Portsmouth began defense of its Ohio Valley Conference co-championship with a 60-24rout of Ironton Saturday in girls high school basketball.
The Trojans (2-0 overall, 1-0 OVC) jumped to a 26-5 lead and never were seriously challenged. Portsmouth led 47-11 by halftime, then let up in the second half, playing to a 13-13 tie.
Keke Woods paced Portsmouth with 17 points. Sienna Allen scored 15 points and Daysha Reid 12.
Lola Hankins led the Fighting Tigers (0-1, 0-1) with 15 points.

In Class AAAA at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, fifth-seeded Huntington High (11-1) visits No. 1 Martinsburg (12-0), and No. 6 Hurricane (10-2) plays at No. 2 Spring Mills (11-1).
In Class AAA, No. 4 Herbert Hoover (12-0) plays at top-seeded Princeton (12-0) at 7 p.m. Friday. No. 3 Bridgeport (12-0) goes to No. 2 Fairmont Senior (11-1) at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
In Class AA, at 7 p.m. Friday, top-seeded Frankfort (12-0) entertains fourth-seeded Williamstown (10-2), and No. 3 Independence (8-3) visits No. 2 Roane County (12-0).
In Class A at 7 p.m. Friday, No. 4 Cameron (11-1) plays at No. 1 Tug Valley (12-0), and No. 3 Wahama (12-0) is at No. 2 Tucker County (12-0).
OHIO PLAYOFFS: State championship games are set this week for Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton.
At 3 p.m. Saturday, Ironton (14-1) plays Liberty Center (15-0) for the Division V title. The Division II game features Cincinnati Anderson (15-0) vs. Avon (15-0) at 7 p.m. Thursday. The Division VII, the smallest class, game in set for 10:30 a.m. Friday, pairing Jeromesville Hillsdale (14-1) vs. Maria Stein Marion Local (15-0) at 10:30 a.m. Friday.
The Division III game is slated for 3 p.m. Friday featuring Columbus Watterson (15-0) vs. Toledo Central Catholic (14-1). The Division I, the large-school classification, game pits Powell Olentangy Liberty (13-2) against Cincinnati Moeller (14-1) at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
At 10:30 a.m. Saturday, the Division VI game is set with Coldwater (14-1) playing Kirtland (15-0). at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Gnadenhutten Indian Valley (15-0) plays Sandusky Perkins (14-1).
KENTUCKY PLAYOFFS: All state championship games are set for Kroger Field at the University of Kentucky in Lexington.
Raceland (10-4), runner-up in 2023, takes on Lexington Sayre (14-0), coached by former Marshall University and NFL star Chad Pennington, at noon Friday for the Class 1A title.
In Class 2A, Owensboro Catholic (14-0) plays Beechwood (13-1) at 4 p.m. Friday. Franklin County (13-0) takes on Paducah Tilghman (14-1) at 8 p.m. Friday for the 4A crown.
On Saturday, Union County (12-2) plays the Christian Academy of Louisville (11-3) at noon in the 3A championship tilt. At 4 p.m., in the 6A final, Ryle (12-20 plays Louisville Trinity (12-2). In Class 5A, Cooper (14-0) plays Bowling Green (12-2) at 8 p.m.
