HUNTINGTON òòò½ÊÓÆµ” Gilmer County (18-8) scored four runs in the top of the eighth inning to defeat Huntington St. Joe 4-0 on Monday in the Class A Region 4 high school baseball tournament at the YMCA Kennedy Center.
The Titansòòò½ÊÓÆµ™ Kolten Holbert allowed four hits, struck out eight and walked two to earn the win. Holbert, Tyler Ratliff, Gauge Goodrich and Lexington Grogg each drove in a run.
Cam Keller went 2 for 3 for the Irish (25-8).
IRONTON ST. JOE 7, PAINT VALLEY 6: Wes Neal scored on an error to give the host Flyers a walk-off win over the Bearcats.
St. Joe trailed 6-5 entering the bottom of the seventh inning. Carson Willis hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Rex Weber with the tying run.
Weber went 3 for 3 with a triple and a double. Evan Aldridge was 3 for 4, Carson Lyons went 2 for 4 and was Neal 2 for 4. Willis was the winning pitcher.
Preston Fauber went 2 for 3 for Paint Valley. Jase Reinhart knocked in two runs.
ASHLAND 6, FAIRVIEW 0: The Tomcatsòòò½ÊÓÆµ™ L.J. Murphy fanned 12 in throwing a six-hit shutout in the 64th District tournament semifinals at Addington Field in Cannonsburg, Kentucky.
Murphy helped his cause by going 2 for 3 with two RBIs. Brady Marushi went 2 for 2 with a pair of doubles.
òòò½ÊÓÆµhland (14-19) advanced to the championship game against tournament host Boyd County, scheduled for Tuesday. The Eagles finished 14-13.
RUSSELL 6, GREENUP COUNTY 2: Kyle Mokas whiffed eight, walked none and limited the Musketeers to five hits as the Red Devils defeated the Musketeers in the 63rd District tournament semifinals in Raceland, Kentucky.
Jacob Tolliver smacked two hits in three at-bats for Russell (19-12).
Greenup County finished 15-18.
Softball
ASHLAND 17, FAIRVIEW 0: Emma Pinson and Riley Harmon each went 2 for 3 with a home run and four RBIs as the Kittens mauled the Eagles in the 64th District tournament semifinals in Cannonsburg, Kentucky.
Brookelyn Duckwyler was 2 for 2 with a homer and three RBIs. Harmon was the winning pitcher.
òòò½ÊÓÆµhland (16-13) advanced to the championship game at Boyd County, scheduled for Tuesday.
Fairview finished 9-15.
WHEELERSBURG 10, ROCK HILL 0: Catie Boggs went 2 for 3 and hit a two-run home run as the Pirates rolled over the Redwomen in a Division V tournament game at Ohio University in Athens.
Makenzie Mullens was 2 for 3 with two RBIs. Kaylynn Carter went 3 for 3 with a homer and four RBIs and was the winning pitcher. Carter struck out eight.
SYMMES VALLEY 15, WESTERN PIKE 0: Marley Ferguson drove in four runs with two doubles in as many at-bats to help the Vikings rout the Indians in a Division VII tournament contest at the University of Rio Grande.
Emma Ridenour knocked in two, going 3 for 3. Lindsey Freeman went 2 for 3 with a triple, double, two RBIs and two runs scored. Brenna Tibbs struck out 12 to pick up the win.
ADENA 12, MEIGS 5: Marly Halcomb was 3 for 5 with a homer and five RBIs as the Warriors topped the Marauders in a Division IV tournament contest.
Adriana Guarnieri went 2 for 3 with three RBIs. Kelsea Brown went 2 for 3.
For Meigs, Shelby Yost was 2 for 3 with a trio of RBIs. Aubrey Newell went 2 for 4.
