FRANKLIN FURNACE, Ohio òòò½ÊÓÆµ” Ironton couldnòòò½ÊÓÆµ™t convert a two-point conversion with 1:08 to play in a 28-27 loss to Clarksburg (Ontario, Canada) North Friday at Green High School.
The game was moved to Green about three hours before kickoff after storms damaged Tanks Memorial Stadium where the Fighting Tigers usually play. Roof damage caused leaks that flooded both locker rooms.
Braden Schreck threw an 8-yard touchdown pass to Zayne Williams to pull Ironton (5-1) within 28-27. Schreck, under pressure, passed to Tyler Roach on the conversion attempt, but the ball sailed high.
The Tigers led 7-0 early when Schreck hit Willliams from 16 yards for a TD and David Fields kicked the extra point. North scored the next 14 points as Winston Chapman threw a 13-yard scoring strike to Lucas Weir, then ran four yards for a touchdown.
Ironton tied it in the third quarter on Shaun Terryòòò½ÊÓÆµ™s 47-yard punt return. Schreck put the Tigers ahead with a 10-yard run at 9:56 of the fourth quarter. North responded with a 54-yard touchdown pass from Jacob Mueller to Maxin Cucik, followed by a two-yard TD plunge by Lucas Shannon.
Clarkson North (4-1) ran 41 times for 280 yards and completed 12 of 16 passes for 145. The Tigers rushed for 142 yards on 24 attempts and were 10 of 18 passing for 78 yards.
Shannon carried 31 times for 93 yards. For Ironton, Terry ran for 56 yards on four attempts and caught three passes for eight yards.
PORTSMOUTH 45, CHESAPEAKE 8: The Trojans (4-1 overall, 3-0 Ohio Valley Conference) overcame an 8-6 deficit to beat the homestanding Panthers (3-3, 0-2) at Phil Davis Field.
Lukas Bradley ran 35 yards for a touchdown to give Portsmouth a 6-0 lead. Drew Plantz put Chesapeake ahead on a 37-yard fumble return and a two-point conversion run. J.T. Williams raced 14 yards for a TD to put the Trojans up to stay.
Portsmouth added a safety, an 80-yard kickoff return by Jacob Tidd, a pair of scoring jaunts by Chase Heiland and a 48-yard touchdown scamper by Dontavion Parker.
Heiland carried nine times for 125 yards. Plantz gained 83 yards on 15 attempts.
COAL GROVE 46, GALLIA ACADEMY 8: Kaden Murphy carried 14 times for 232 yards and two touchdowns as the host Hornets (4-2 overall, 2-1 Ohio Valley Conference) walloped the Blue Devils (0-6, 0-3) at Patterson Field.
Caden Turner added 124 yards and two touchdowns on 10 attempts. Turner also ran for four two-point conversions.
Coal Grove totaled 405 yards, 362 rushing. Gallia Academy gained 159 yards, 145 passing as Braylon Rathburn went 8 for 20 with one touchdown.
The game was tied 8-8 early, but Turner scored from the 4 late in the first quarter to put the Hornets ahead to stay.
TOLSIA 47, CALHOUN COUNTY 0: Braydon Mollette toted the ball 13 carries for 115 yards as the Rebels (3-1) blew out the Red Devils (0-4) in Mt. Zion, West Virginia.
Robert Evans passed for 131 yards and one touchdown for Tolsia. Evans ran for three touchdowns.
JOHNSON CENTRAL 42, BOYD COUNTY 14: The Eagles (5-1) won their fifth straight behind 235 rushing yards by Zack McCort.
The senior carried 16 times and scored five touchdowns. Logan Music backed McCort with 105 yards and one touchdown on five attempts. Dylan Lemaster made 12 tackles and Caleb Barnes 10.
RUSSELL 36, FLEMING COUNTY 0: Elijah Hankins completed eight of nine passes for 285 yards and three touchdowns to lead the host Red Devils (3-3) over the Panthers (0-5) at Henry R. Evans Stadium.
Caden Pennington caught four passes for 115 yards and one score. Kaden Benge ran for two touchdowns. Caden Mitchell and Jayden Pennington each caught a TD pass.
SOUTH GALLIA 36, PND 8: The Rebels (4-2) used a strong ground attack to run by Portsmouth Notre Dame (2-4) in Mercerville, Ohio.
South Gallia rushed for 294 of its 379 yards. Layne Wright led South Gallia with 94 yards on 15 carries. Terry Sanders carried 14 times for 79 yards and one touchdown.
Judah Cremeens added 77 yards and two TDs on four attempts.
Wright completed his only pass to Cremeens for an 85-yard touchdown on the Rebelsòòò½ÊÓÆµ™ first play from scrimmage. Lincoln Saber ran 39 yards for a touchdown to make it 14-0.
Bryce McGrawòòò½ÊÓÆµ™s touchdown scamper pulled cut the deficit in half, but Hunter Wrightòòò½ÊÓÆµ™s interception set up Tanner Sandersòòò½ÊÓÆµ™ three-yard scoring jaunt 21 seconds before halftime. South Gallia scored again after James Sheetsòòò½ÊÓÆµ™ fumble recovery led to a nine-yard run by Cremeens, who later added a 55-yard touchdown sprint.
WAHAMA 68, WIRT COUNTY 22: Trace Simpkins ran for three touchdowns and passed for three more as the White Falcons (5-0) squashed the Tigers (3-2) in Mason, West Virginia.
Simpkins picked up 155 yards on 10 carries. Connor Lambert added 92 yards on 10 attempts and caught three passes for 123 yards. Lambert scored three touchdowns. Reezin Stitt returned the opening kickoff for a score and rushed for one TD.
For Wirt County, Tyler Smith completed 8 of 20 passes for 199 yards and two touchdowns, with a pair of interceptions.
Isaiah Sampson caught five passes for 130 yards and one score.
RACELAND 29, NEWPORT CATHOLIC 7: The Rams (2-3) took advantage of four Thoroughbredsòòò½ÊÓÆµ™ turnovers to win in Covington, Kentucky.
Newport Catholic (3-3) lost fumbles at the Raceland 4- and 15-yard lines. It also fumbled away one kickoff and one punt.
Jacob Wallner threw a 37-yard touchdown pass on fourth down on the first play of the second quarter to give the Rams a 7-0 lead. The Thoroughbreds tied it on a Caleb Koleòòò½ÊÓÆµ™s 2-yard touchdown run set up by a blocked punt.
Landon Stiltner scored the game winner from the 9.
NELSONVILLE-YORK 42, MEIGS 14: Cameron Sullivan threw four touchdown passes and caught one to pace the host Buckeyes (4-2 overall, 2-0 Tri-Valley Conference) over the Marauders (2-4, 1-2) at Boston Field.
Sullivan totaled 187 yards as Nelsonville-York took advantage of four Meigs turnovers. Sullivan completed 9 of 11 passes for 142 yards.
Wade Howard ran for 90 yards on 20 carries for Meigs.

CABELL MIDLAND 1, HUNTINGTON HIGH 0: Malik Baryun scored 1:32 into the game to lift the Knights (7-1-3) over the Highlanders (10-2-1) in Ona.

HUNTINGTON HIGH 10, CABELL MIDLAND 0: Jaycie McClintic scored 27 seconds into the game to give the Highlanders (7-6-1) the lone goal they needed in a rout of the Knights (3-9-1) in Ona.
McClintic assisted Scarlett Ball to make it 2-0 at the 1:30 mark. In the fifth minute, Brinley Elkins scored off a pass from Claire Johnson. In the 18th minute Quincy Orwigòòò½ÊÓÆµ™s goal off a corner kick made it 4-0. Orwig added another goal seven minutes later, then assisted Cali Ellis in the 31st minute.
Elkins made it 7-0 off an assist by Laurel Johnson in the 36th minute.
Claire Johnson scored two goals and Orwig one in the second half. Ellis, Elkins and Orwig issued assists.
ROCK HILL 2, IRONTON 0: Myles Bailey scored twice as the Redwomen shut out the Tigers in Pedro, Ohio.

ROCK HILL WINS: The Redmen won the Cross the Creek meet in Washington Courthouse, Ohio.
Rock Hillòòò½ÊÓÆµ™s Nixon Snavely won the race in 17:20.
Volleyball
KENTUCKY CHALLENGE: Boyd County went 1-4 at the event at the Exposition Center in Louisville.
The Lions (13-12) lost 25-21, 25-19 to Paul Laurence Dunbar; 25-20, 25-15 to Scott County; 25-14, 25-12 to Lexington Catholic; and 25-16, 18-25, 15-11 to Scott County. Boyd County ended with a 25-23, 25-23 triumph over Oak Mountain High of Birmingham, Alabama.
In the victory Laura Chaffin made 11 assists and Casie Porter 10.
