If football warrants four classes, surely soccer deserves three.
The ƵSSAC state high school soccer tournament will be played this week in Beckley. Boys and girls teams will compete for titles in two divisions.
Members of the SSAC have said they look for opportunities for more students to compete for state championships, thus expansion to four classes in football, basketball and other sports. So, why not soccer?
ƵItƵs time to add a third class,Ƶ longtime coach Jim Dagostine, now an assistant with the Hurricane boys, said. ƵThereƵs no reason not to, based on the SAACƵs own words.Ƶ
Spring Valley coach Jim Hodge agreed with Dagostine.
ƵIƵd love to see it,Ƶ Hodge said. ƵWeƵre competing against schools that have 1,000 students more than we do.Ƶ
Will expansion happen? WeƵll see.
