Local high school football teams reside in the middle of the pack for the most part in the ƵSSAC rankings released Tuesday.
Huntington High (3-1, 11.88 points) is seventh in Class AAAA, the division with the stateƵs largest schools. Hurricane (3-2, 10.9) is ninth. Cabell Midland (0-4, 3.23) is 16th in the 16-team field.
The top 16 teams in each division make the playoffs, with the top eight securing home games in the first round.
Highlanders coach Billy Seals said football is important, but this week heƵs also thinking of those devastated by flooding in North Carolina and his native Tennessee.
ƵPrayers are going out for the area next to the city I grew up in,Ƶ Seals said of Greeneville, Tennessee, where he has family.
Spring Mills (5-0, 16.0) tops the division, with fellow Eastern Panhandle power Martinsburg (5-0, 15.8) second. Parkersburg South (4-1, 13.5) is third, followed by Wheeling Park (3-2, 12.7), Morgantown (4-1, 12.6), Washington (4-1, 12.1), Huntington High and Woodrow Wilson (3-1, 11.63).
The next eight is headed by Hurricane, followed by George Washington (4-1, 10.68), Hedgesville (2-2, 9.13), Jefferson (1-3, 8.63), Parkersburg (2-3, 7.3), University (1-3, 6.75), Musselman (0-4, 5.25) and Cabell Midland.

In Class AAA, Spring Valley (3-2, 9.4) is ninth, Winfield (3-2, 7.44) 16th, Point Pleasant (1-2, 7.0) 17th and Lincoln County (0-5, 2.58) 29th.
Fairmont Senior (5-0, 14.6) is No. 1, Bridgeport (5-0, 14.2) is second, followed by Princeton (5-0, 13.6), Herbert Hoover (4-0, 13.0), Ripley (4-0, 11.5), North Marion (4-1, 11.2), Oak Hill (3-1, 10.2) and Elkins (4-1, 9.76). After Spring Valley comes Nitro (4-1, 9.28), Shady Spring (3-1, 8.13), Robert C. Byrd (2-3, 7.88), Keyser (2-2, 7.68), Preston (2-3, 7.52), Capital (2-2, 7.45) and Winfield.
Wayne (3-1, 9.05) is settled in at No. 7 in Class AA, where Frankfort (4-0, 13.0) is No. 1. Roane County (5-0, 12.2) is second, followed by South Harrison (4-0, 9.75), Williamstown (6-0, 9.6), Independence (3-1, 9.35), Westside (4-0, 9.25), Wayne and Philip Barbour (3-2, 8.16).
The next eight features Clay County (3-2, 7.64), Poca (3-2, 7.5), Wheeling Central (3-2, 7.22), Liberty Harrison (2-3, 2.12), Moorefield (2-1, 6.72), Nicholas County (2-2, 6.28), Mingo Central (2-2, 6.03) and Scott (2-2, 5.88).
In Class A, Wahama (5-0, 8.4) is third behind Tug Valley (4-0, 11.0) and River View (4-0, 8.5). Tolsia (3-1, 5.45) is 14th.
Tucker County (5-0, 7.6) and Valley Wetzel (5-0, 7.6) are tied for fourth. Petersburg (3-2, 6.82) is fifth ahead of Doddridge County (4-1, 6.6), Weirton and Madonna (4-1, 6.6) in the initial eight. Pendleton County (3-1, 6.45) is No. 9, followed by Greenbrier West (4-1, 6.36), Meadow Bridge (3-1, 6.1), East Hardy (2-3, 5.56), Sherman (2-1, 5.47), Tolsia, Cameron (4-1, 5.4) and Tyler Consolidated (2-2, 5.28).
