Fairland versus Ironton means nothing anymore as far as Ohio Valley Conference football titles go, but the high school football game has tremendous value as far as playoff points.
The Dragons (7-0, 15.0037 points) are No. 1 in Ohioòòò½ÊÓÆµ™s Division V, Region 19 of the OHSAA computer ratings. The Fighting Tigers (6-1, 12.539) are fourth. The teams, former OVC foes, meet at 7 p.m. Friday at Jim Mayo Memorial Stadium in Rome Township, Ohio. The winner will stock up a bonanza of points, which determine playoff seedings.
The top 16 teams in each region at the end of the regular season qualify for the playoffs, with the top eight earning home games in the first round.
Harvest Prep (5-1, 14.6142) is second in Region 19 and Gahanna Columbus Academy (7-0, 12.8911) third. Belmont Union Local, Barnesville, Amanda-Clearcreek and Nelsonville-York round out the top eight.
Portsmouth (5-2, 9.3846) is ninth, followed by West Muskingum, Piketon, Columbus Africentric, Zane Trace, Wellston, Coal Grove (4-2, 6.3056) and Byesville Meadowbrook.
Wheelersburg (3-4, 4.5339) is 19th, Meigs (2-5, 1.4826) 23rd and South Point (1-6, 1.3854) 24th.
In Division VI, Region 24, Rock Hill (6-1, 6.0880) is eighth and Chesapeake (4-3, 4.6837) ninth. Coldwater (7-0, 14.824) is No. 1, followed in the top seven by Anna, Cincinnati Country Day, Paint Valley, Portsmouth West, St. Bernard-Elmwood Place, and South Vienna Northeastern.
Cincinnati Deer Park is 10th ahead of Dayton Christian, Covington, Lima Perry, Madison-Plains, Purcell Marian and Frankfort Adena.
In Division VII, made up of the stateòòò½ÊÓÆµ™s smallest schools, Region 27, South Gallia (5-2, 5.371) is seventh, one spot ahead of Portsmouth Notre Dame (3-4, 3.4214). Symmes Valley (2-4, 1.8056) is 17th and Green (1-6, 1.2732) 21st.
Eastern Pike (7-0, 8.9518) tops the ratings, followed in the top six by Steubenville Catholic Central, Trimble, Danville, Conotton Valley and Miller. New Matamoras Frontier is 10th ahead of Bridgeport, Strasburg-Franklin, Shadyside, Fairfield Christian, Hannibal River and Lancaster Fisher Catholic.
In Division IV, Region 15, Gallia Academy (0-7, 0.0) and River Valley (0-7, 0.0) are tied for 24th. Gnadenhutten Indian Valley 7-0, 16.5571) is No. 1.
