Spring Valley, Huntington St. Joe, Wayne and Wahama finished in the top 10 of their respective classes in the final West Virginia òòò½ÊÓÆµsociated Press boys high school basketball poll on Tuesday.
The Timberwolves (18-2, 63 points) came in fourth in Class AAA. The Irish (14-7, 58) finished fifth and White Falcons (14-6, 24) claimed eighth in Class A, and the Pioneers (15-6, 19) were ninth in Class AAA.
Spring Mills (20-1) finished atop the Class AAAA poll with 87 points and six of nine No. 1 votes. The Cardinals jumped Morgantown (17-2, 83), which finished second, with three top nods. George Washington (18-3, 71), Spring Valley and Woodrow Wilson (15-3, 49) round out the top five.
University (16-6, 40) and South Charleston (16-4, 40) tied for sixth ahead of Parkersburg South (13-7, 30), Martinsburg (11-8, 15) and Hedgesville (15-6, 10). Huntington High and Washington received votes.
Bridgeport (18-1, 90) is a unanimous No. 1 in Class AAA. Shady Spring (16-4, 75) is second, followed in the first five by Fairmont Senior (15-4, 68), Ripley (18-4, 64) and Nitro (15-5, 58). Herbert Hoover (17-4, 43) is sixth. Chapmanville (12-7, 30) and Greenbrier East (13-7, 30) tied for seventh. Wayne and Robert C. Byrd (13-6, 16) complete the top 10. Princeton and North Marion each appeared on one ballot.
Tug Valley (19-2, 90) topped the Class A poll with all nine No. 1 votes. Tucker County (18-2, 81) is a consensus No. 2. East Hardy (16-5, 63) ranks third ahead of Greater Beckley Christian (13-7, 59), Huntington St. Joe, Clay-Battelle (13-5, 47), Magnolia (14-8), Wahama, Tygarts Valley (14-8, 18) and Montcalm (15-6, 15). Sherman and Man picked up votes.
Williamstown (17-3, 85) and Wheeling Central (20-2, 85) tied at No. 1 in Class AA. The Yellowjackets garnered five No. 1 votes and the Maroon Knights got four.
James Monroe (17-2, 67) is third, ahead of Wyoming East (15-3, 65), Westside (13-5, 55), Logan (12-8, 41), Ravenswood (16-5, 34), Ritchie County (15-7, 26), Doddridge County (17-4, 23) and Scott (14-8, seven). Braxton County and Charleston Catholic earned votes.
