Athletes from Ohio found success in smaller colleges last season, excelling in multiple sports. Following is a look at six:
COULTER CLELAND, Davidson football, Meigs HS.
The 6-foot-1, 200-pound sophomore quarterback earned honorable-mention All-Pioneer Football League honors after completing 120 of 171 passes for 1,423 yards and 17 touchdowns with eight interceptions.
He also carried 42 times for 364 yards. Cleland was fourth nationally in passing efficiency.
NATHANIAL HENSLEY, Muskingum football, Green HS.
A 6-9, 295-pound senior offensive lineman, Hensley played in four games last season.
MALIK PEGRAM, Muskingum football, South Point HS.
The sophomore wide receiver appeared in one game last season after playing in two as a freshman.
GAGE SALYERS, Youngstown State football, Ironton HS.
The sophomore safetyòòò½ÊÓÆµ™s season and career was halted by a preseason injury.
He, however, starred in the classroom, making the Missouri Valley Conference honor roll.
LANE SMITH, Muskingum track, Rock Hill HS.
A sophomore, Smith was named to the 2024 All-Ohio Athletic Conference academic team.
BELLA STEVENS, Wilmington cross country, Rock Hill HS.
The junior competed in all seven of the Quakersòòò½ÊÓÆµ™ races last season. She ran a career-best 25:20.0 in the 6K at the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Region Championship Nov. 11.
She ran a season-best 22:23 in the 5K at the Jenna Strong Fall Classic Oct. 13 at Wilmington College.
