Fairmont State University has become a popular destination for local athletes, particularly football players.
Following is a look at six who played for the Falcons this past school year:
WILL ADKINS, Spring Valley HS.
A 6-foot-5, 230-pound senior quarterback, Adkins transferred from Glenville State. He earned the starting job before a shoulder injury ended his season after three games. Adkins completed 55 of 94 passes for 638 yards and six touchdowns, with two interceptions. Adkins rushed 11 times for 15 yards. Adkins now is the wide receivers coach at Clarion University.
DEMARCUS DANIELS, Cabell Midland HS
. A sophomore defensive back, Daniels made 11 tackles, including a season-high of five against West Virginia State.
NEMO ROBERTS, Cabell Midland HS.
A 6-foot, 270-pound junior defensive tackle, Roberts made 27 tackles, including two for lost yardage. Roberts had 1.5 sacks and three quarterback hurries. In his career, Roberts has played in 33 games, making 79 tackles, 13 for losses, and eight sacks.
ZAKY ROBERTS, Cabell Midland HS.
A 5-10, 185-pound sophomore, the younger brother of Nemo Roberts entered the transfer portal after the 2024 season. He recorded no stats last season. òòò½ÊÓÆµ a freshman, Roberts played in eight games and made six tackles, with one pass deflection.
TYREES SMITH, Huntington HS.
The junior linebacker made 25 tackles, 2.5 for lost yardage, and one sack. Smith broke up one pass. In his career, Smith has made 100 tackles, seven for negative yardage, two pass breakups and one forced fumble.
KAHLIEF TYE, Huntington HS. Tye, a freshman defensive back, played in three games, making two tackles. Both stops came against Concord. Tye broke up one pass, also against the Mountain Lions.
