Spring Valley and Hurricane meet up in a big-time early-season Mountain State Athletic Conference matchup. Winfield and Herbert Hoover do the same to get Cardinal Conference play going in style. Scott vacated the Cardinal after last season, but retains what has been an entertaining series with Wayne.

Hurricane rallies past Spring Valley 63-48
Hurricane (1-1) overcame a 35-28 halftime deficit to defeat Spring Valley 63-48 in a wild game. The Timberwolves fell to 1-1.
Grace shows none to Spring Valley on 46-yard TD run
A mere 10 seconds after Spring Valley closed within eight points, Kylan Grace raced 46 yards for a touchdown to give Hurricane a 63-48 lead with 4:23 left.
Spring Valley hanging in, pulls within eight
Logan Harris scored and Ryan Minigh booted the extra point to pull Spring Valley within 56-48 of Hurricane with 4:33 left in the fourth quarter. The Timberwolves need a stop, a touchdown and a two-point conversion to tie.
Spring Valley scores, Hurricane answers
Miguel Cain's 2-yard touchdown plunge put Spring Valley back in the game, although the extra point attempt was blocked, making it Hurricane 49, Timberwolves 41.
Noah Vellaithambi, though, sprinted 78 yards for a TD to give Hurricane a 56-41 advantage with 6:43 to play.
Martinsburg stamps itself as clear favorite -- again
In a matchup of the top two ranked teams in Class AAAA, Martinsburg upended Huntington 47-15.
The Bulldogs' Kyree Bunny caught four touchdown passes.
If this is the gap between No. 1 and No. 2, good luck to the field as it pursues the Bulldogs. They'll need it.
Nitro pulls away to top St. Albans
Leading 7-0 at intermission, the Wildcats outscored the rival Red Dragons 28-6 in the second half to pull away to a 35-6 victory.
Tudor gets Riverside on the board
Logan Tudor's diving catch in the end zone gets Riverside on the scoreboard in the third quarter. The pass from X'Zayveon Whitestone went through the hands of an Oak Hill defender and into Tudor's hands. Red Devils lead 12-6 at the end of the third quarter.
Hurricane takes control, leads Spring Valley 49-35
Kylan Grace scores on a 6-yard run to give Hurricane a 49-35 lead over Spring Valley with 49 seconds left in the third quarter. The Redskins have outscored the Timberwolves 21-0 in the quarter.
Hurricane strikes twice, takes 42-35 lead
Noah Vellaithambi ran 24 yards for a touchdown at 7:15 of the third quarter, then 15 seconds later after Kno'sean Hampton interception, threw a 47-yard TD strike to Jolly Burnett to put Hurricane ahead of Spring Valley for the first time tonight, 42-35.
Huskies victorious in Elkview
Herbert Hoover scored two touchdowns thanks to quarterback Dane Hatfield and Blake Fisher to increase its lead to 29-15.
Winfield did score its first touchdown since the second quarter off a nine-yard Easton Pinkerton run.
The Huskies closed the game and moved to 2-0 on the season and win, 29-15.
Rock Hill at Oak Hill postponed
Rock Hill's game against Oak Hill (Ohio) has been postponed until 3:30 p.m. Saturday. Lightning is causing havoc throughout the Tri-State.
Hoover up headed to the fourth
Herbert Hoover got the only score in the third quarter against Winfield on Blake Fisher's 30-yard touchdown.
After three quarters, the Huskies lead the Generals, 14-7.
History repeating itself at Putnam
Ten years ago, the opener at rebuilt Putnam Stadium in Ƶhland against Newport Central Catholic was rained out.
It hasn't come to that yet tonight in Ƶhland, but the Tomcats unveiled new artificial turf before tonight's game, and now have been in a lightning delay for around 35 minutes.
Harvest Prep (Ohio) leads Ƶhland, 12-10.

Dual-threat Martinsburg quarterback Koi Fagan, in his first big game in that role replacing departed QB Murphy Clement, ran for a touchdown on the Bulldogs' first drive on Friday against Huntington.
He's thrown for a score to Kyree Bunny on the second one to put the Bulldogs up 14-0 on the Highlanders early.
Defensive battle in Battle of the Bridge
Nitro knocked off St. Albans 84-6 in last year's meeting in their long-running series.
That isn't how Friday's rematch has developed. It's 0-0 through one quarter.
