Huntington puts Capital away, 49-7
Huntington High ran for seven touchdowns, including four from Keegan Sack, as the Highlanders eased past Capital Friday night.
Hatfield goes off, tops record book
Herbert Hoover QB Dane Hatfield ran for 315 yards on 32 carries to set the Huskies' school record for career rushing yards. DJ Taylor had held it since 2006.
Hatfield accounted for six touchdowns -- five rushing, one passing -- and 434 yards in Hoover's 56-7 beating of Elkins.
Good ol' good one in Nitro
Winfield and Nitro head to the fourth quarter locked up at 28.
Nitro got a 39-yard touchdown from Josh Moody to Bryson Sowards to go up seven.
Winfield got its only touchdown of the quarter with less than a minute left.
Sack logs third TD
Keegan Sack scored his third rushing touchdown of the night on Huntington's opening drive of the second half, which began when Avonte Crawford intercepted Capital's Peyton Grigsby near midfield. Huntington leads the Cougars 28-7.
Ambulance in South Charleston
With Cabell Midland up 30-0 on South Charleston in the second half, the game has been stopped and an ambulance summoned for Black Eagles QB Met Riley after he was sacked, per Rick Ryan.
Coal Grove 43, Rock Hill 3
Caden Murphy adds a 29-yard TD run and Derrick Bloomfield the extra point to close out the game. The Hornets improve to 6-4, the Redmen fall to 7-3.
Wildcats, Generals knotted up at halftime
The Winfield Generals scored 14 unanswered points in the second quarter to tie the game at 21 at halftime.
The Generals got a boost from quarterback Easton Pinkerton as he scored with his feet and arm.
Pinkerton scored with his feet from 1 yard out, then connected with Aiden Hernandez for the 49-yard score.
Cougars defense keeping things close at halftime
Capital's defense turned Huntington over twice, a fumble near the goal line and then an interception which set up a scoring drive just before halftime to keep the game close at the break. Quarterback Peyton Grigsby converted a fourth-and-12 with his legs to continue the drive and then capped it off with a 17-yard touchdown pass to Damian Johnson with 18 seconds left in the second quarter.
Huntington leads 21-7 at the break.
Coal Grove, and the clock, are continuously running
Keden Murphy breaks loose on a 72-yard touchdown sprint. Caden Murphy runs for the conversion. Coal Grove leads Rock Hill 36-3 with 2:43 left in the third quarter.
The I has it
Coal Grove boosts its lead to 28-3 over Rock Hill as Kaden Murphy scores on a 15-yard run to cap a nine-play, 47-yard drive. All plays were runs out of the Stack-I, which I haven't seen run in decades.
Sack scores again to give Highlanders 21-0 lead
Keegan Sack reached the end zone for a second time in the first half and Huntington grew its lead to 21-0 over Capital with 9:06 left in the first half.
Capital trails by two scores early
After forcing a punt on Capital's initial possession, Huntington worked its way down the field and Keegan Sack ended the drive with a 3-yard touchdown run to double Huntington's lead halfway through the opening quarter. Sack later blocked a punt and nearly ran for a second touchdown on the drive that followed, but lost a fumble near the goal line.
Dust in the rain, er, wind
Rock Hill's band is playing, and performing well, the Kansas classic "Dust in the Wind" as light rain speckles the artificial turf at Patterson Stadium. Kaden Murphy has rushed 20 times for 116 yards for Coal Grove.
Coal Grove takes 20-3 lead over Rock Hill into half
Rylan Smith danced, scrambled and shook before throwing a 6-yard touchdown pass to Kaden Murphy on the final play of the first half. The conversion run failed. The Hornets lead Rock Hill 20-3 at halftime.
Wildcats take early lead into second quarter
Nitro jumped out to an early 21-7 lead after one quarter.
The Wildcats got their lead thanks to two rushing touchdowns, including a 57-yard score.
Winfield got on the board on a 68-yard touchdown by Chris Radcliffe.
Highlanders find end zone fast
Huntington wasted little time getting on the scoreboard with a 78-yard rushing touchdown on the first play from scrimmage by sophomore Andreas Reese for a 7-0 lead on Capital just 21 seconds into the contest.
Kaden and Caden boost Coal Grove lead to 14-3
Kaden Murphy broke two tackles on a 36-yard scoring jaunt. Caden Murphy ran for the two-point conversion. Coal Grove leads Rock Hill 14-3 at 11:10 of the second quarter.
Rock Hill responds with a field goal
Braden Schug boots a 27-yard field goal to pull Rock Hill within 6-3 of Coal Grove. That's the way the first quarter will end as rain starts to fall at Patterson Field.
Murphy gives Coal Grove a 6-0 lead
Kaden Murphy with a 14-yard run around left end off a pitch puts Coal Grove up on Rock Hill 6-0 with 7:45 to play in the first quarter. The conversion run failed.
