PULASKI, Va. òòò½ÊÓÆµ” The Tri-State Coal Cats are on their best offensive stretch in franchise history after walloping Pulaski 19-10 on Thursday in Appalachian League baseball at Calfee Park.
Tri-State (11-16) has won three straight, scoring 17, seven and 19 runs in those games.
Against the River Turtles (15-14), the Coal Cats rallied from a 2-1 deficit, scoring four runs in the second and eighth innings, five in the sixth and three in the fourth.
Cesar Gonzalez (Boston College) went 4 for 6 with three runs batted in and a trio of runs scored. Michael Rodriguez (Bethune-Cookman) went 3 for 5 and drove in two runs. Bishop Quarrels (Bryant & Stratton) was 2 for 5 with three RBIs. Ryan Maggy (West Virginia) went 2 for 5 with a home run, a double and knocked in two. Sal Mineo (Ohio State) went 2 for 4, walked twice, doubled, tripled and scored three runs. Chandler Murray (Kansas State) was 3 for 6. Jackson Golden (Marshall) drove in three runs.
Noah LaFine (Ohio State) was the winning pitcher.
For Pulaski, Tre Bryant (St. Francis) went 2 for 5 with a home run and three RBIs. Jonathan Holt (Notre Dame) and Aden Malpass (Missouri) each drove home two runs. Lukas Buckner (Mississippi State) went 3 for 4. Hayes Allen took the loss.
Parker Oòòò½ÊÓÆµ™Dell and Jason Holstein, each of Hurricane, West Virginia, qualified for the West Virginia Open on Thursday at The Resort at Glade Springs.
Oòòò½ÊÓÆµ™Dell shot 2-under-par 70 on the 7,093-yard Cobb Course. Holstein carded a 76.
Ben Palmer of Parkersburg fired a 69 to take medalist honors.
The West Virginia Open is scheduled for July 23-25 at the Sleepy Hollow Golf Course in Hurricane.
