That's why Trevon Pendleton walks a precarious tightrope of tradition and change as the first-year head football coach at Ironton High School. Ironton football isn't just another house. It's the royal palace of high school football in southeastern Ohio. Some teams might be better than the Fighting Tigers, now, but none features the tradition.

IRONTON òòò½ÊÓÆµ” Much had been made about the possible demise of Ironton High School football after the Fighting Tigers began the season 1-3, including 0-1 in the Ohio Valley Conference.

IRONTON - One game does not a season make and Ironton High School's football team is thankful for that.

The Fighting Tigers are coming off a 48-3 season-opening loss to Wheelersburg on Saturday and hope to even their record Friday when they entertain Russell (0-1). The Russell Red Devils are not on par with the Wheelersburg Pirates, who now have beaten Ironton in five consecutive years, but Russell owns a streak of its own.

IRONTON - Garrett Carrico doesn't mind sharing.

The 5-foot-11, 185-pound senior running back at Ironton High School likely will carry the football plenty as the Fighting Tigers' featured back, but he figures to have more help than he did last year when he rushed for a team-high 923 yards and 14 touchdowns on 139 carries.
