Stock indexes closed higher on Wall Street, enough to nudge the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq composite to more records. The S&P 500 rose 0.3% Thursday, and the Nasdaq edged up 0.1%. It was the second all-time high in a row for the Nasdaq. The Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.4%. Delta Air Lines led a rally in airline stocks after issuing a solid outlook for the rest of 2025. Delta soared 12%, and United Airlines climbed 14.3%. Cereal maker WK Kellogg jumped 30.6% after agreeing to be acquired by Nutella maker Ferrero Group. Copper prices rose.
A federal judge in New Hampshire has issued a ruling pausing President Donald Trumpòòò½ÊÓÆµ™s executive order ending birthright citizenship from taking effect anywhere in the United States. The judge issued a preliminary injunction Thursday blocking Trump's order and certified a class action lawsuit including all children who will be affected. The judge announced his decision, which includes a seven-day stay to allow for appeal,  after an hourlong hearing. The ruling puts the birthright citizenship issue on a fast track to return to the Supreme Court.
Italian confectioner Ferrero, known for brands like Nutella and Kinder, is buying the century-old U.S. cereal company WK Kellogg in a deal valued at approximately $3.1 billion. Kellogg was founded in Battle Creek, Michigan, in 1906. It makes Froot Loops, Special K, Frosted Flakes and Rice Krispies. Kellogg has been struggling with falling U.S. cereal consumption as consumers opt for protein bars and other products. But industry watchers say its large distribution network and relations with grocers are appealing to Ferrero. The deal still needs the approval of WK Kellogg's shareholders.
Amanda Anisimova has upset No. 1-ranked Aryna Sabalenka 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 at Wimbledon and will face Iga Swiatek in the final. Swiatek has won five Grand Slam titles elsewhere but earned her first berth in a final at the All England Club by overwhelming Belinda Bencic 6-2, 6-0 in the semifinals Thursday. Anisimova reached the first major final of her career a little more than two years after taking a break from tennis because of burnout. The 13th-seeded American lost in the semifinals at the 2019 French Open at age 17. She took time off from the tour in May 2023.
Novak Djokovic is more than a decade older than any other man in the Wimbledon semifinals. He says it motivates him to see if he can keep going toe-to-toe against the younger players at the top of tennis these days. The 38-year-old Djokovic is trying to win his eighth Wimbledon title to tie one record and his 25th Grand Slam trophy overall to break another. He will face No. 1 Jannik Sinner on Friday for a berth in the final. The other semifinal at the All England Club is No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz against No. 5 Taylor Fritz. Two-time defending champion Alcaraz is 22, Sinner is 23 and Fritz is 27.
Iga Swiatek has reached the Wimbledon semifinals for the first time with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over 19th-seeded Liudmila Samsonova that went from a stroll to a bit of a struggle in the late stages. The victory Wednesday means Swiatek will play Belinda Bencic for a berth in the final at the All England Club. The unseeded Bencic defeated No. 7 Mirra Andreeva 7-6 (3), 7-6 (2). Swiatek is a five-time Grand Slam champion. No. 1 Jannik Sinner advanced to the men's semifinals by beating Ben Shelton and will meet Novak Djokovic on Friday. Djokovic is seeking an eighth Wimbledon title and 25th Grand Slam trophy overall.
Aryna Sabalenka has grabbed the last three games to reach the Wimbledon semifinals by overcoming 104th-ranked Laura Siegemund 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 at Centre Court. Sabalenka twice trailed by a break in the third set before coming back Tuesday. She never has been to a title match at the All England Club. She won the Australian Open twice and the U.S. Open once, and was the runner-up at this yearòòò½ÊÓÆµ™s first two majors. The 27-year-old Belarusian lost in the semifinals at Wimbledon in 2021 and 2023. She will meet either Amanda Anisimova or Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova on Thursday. Taylor Fritz won the first men's quarterfinal Tuesday.
U.S. military troops and federal immigration officers have made a brief but mighty show of force at MacArthur Park in Los Angeles. It was unclear if any arrests were made Monday before the National Guard soldiers and federal immigration agents left but their appearance baffled local officials and shook up an area dubbed the òòò½ÊÓÆµœEllis Island of the West Coast." The park is a community hub in a largely immigrant neighborhood. Bass and Gov. Gavin Newsom called it a political stunt and spectacle meant to intimidate the cityòòò½ÊÓÆµ™s immigrant communities. The Department of Homeland Security says it does not discuss its operations and declined to comment.
Stocks fell on Wall Street as the Trump administration stepped up pressure on trading partners to make deals before punishing tariffs imposed by the U.S. take effect. The S&P 500 lost 0.8% Monday. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gave back 0.9%, and the Nasdaq composite fell 0.9%. Tesla tumbled as the feud between CEO Elon Musk and President Donald Trump reignited over the weekend. Musk, once a top donor and ally of Trump, said he would form a third political party in protest over the Republican spending bill that passed last week.

Novak Djokovic has overcame an uncharacteristically unsteady start to avoid what would have been his earliest exit at Wimbledon since 2016. Djokovic took the last five games and 14 of the final 15 points to come through for a 1-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 victory over 11th-seeded Alex de Minaur in the fourth round Monday. Djokovic's bid for an eighth Wimbledon title and 25th Grand Slam trophy will continue against No. 22 Flavio Cobolli. No. 1 Jannik Sinner, No. 10 Ben Shelton, 18-year-old Mirra Andreev, Iga Swiatek and Belinda Bencic also won their fourth-round matches on Monday, when Roger Federer sat in the Royal Box at Centre Court.
