Recent flooding in eastern Kentucky and West Virginia have impacted lives beyond imagination. Local citizens and leadership in these areas rolled up their sleeves to help their neighbors, friends and family. Requests were made to FEMA for support, and although it was slow to respond, they finally arrived in West Virginia to assess the damage. Gov. Patrick Morrisey initiated the request for FEMA support for 14 counties but was recently denied assistance in seven of those counties. Governor Morrisey plans on filing an appeal to FEMA on these seven countiesƵ behalf.

No information has been released by FEMA for why these seven counties were denied aid. Did Governor Morrisey even bother to ask why? Governor Morrisey thanked the Trump administration and FEMA for their help and support. The people in these seven counties were also affected by the flooding and needed assistance along with the countiesƵ cleanup costs and for repairs to roads and bridges, too, but what help can they expect? Will these seven counties have to fend for themselves and raise property taxes to help pay for natural disasters because of the lack of federal support?
