CHARLESTON Ƶ Scores of people in 30 West Virginia counties may have been exposed to measles, according to the West Virginia Department of Health.
In a , the state health office says 152 more people in 30 West Virginia counties were Ƶpotentially exposedƵ following the first confirmed measles case Monday in West Virginia since 2009.
The news release says of the potential exposures, 128 are Mountain State residents and 24 are out-of-state contacts from neighboring states, but the release doesnƵt list which counties the people live in.
Sixty-two of those exposed in West Virginia Ƶlack documentation of adequate protection against measles and are considered high risk,Ƶ according to the release. Health officials have recommended that those exposed individuals with no evidence of immunity against the virus quarantine until May 9 or 10, 2024, depending on their last date of exposure.

ƵMeasles is a serious disease that can cause severe symptoms especially in the most vulnerable kids and adults who are immunocompromised,Ƶ said Christiansen in the release. ƵThe MMR vaccine is the best line of defense against measles. If you are unsure about your vaccination history, you can either get vaccinated or a blood test can be ordered through your local healthcare provider to determine your level of immunity.Ƶ
