WAYNE òòò½ÊÓƵ” A man is facing charges after a woman says he failed to build an agreed-upon porch at her home after being paid more than $30,000.
Jacob Meadows, 38, is charged with obtaining money, property and services by false pretenses.
According to a criminal complaint from the Wayne County Magistrate Courtòòò½ÊÓƵ™s office, he signed a contract to demolish and rebuild a porch at a residence in Wayne County within seven weeks.
The victim said Meadows signed a contract on April 17, 2024, when she gave him a cashieròòò½ÊÓƵ™s check for $17,000. She said he showed up to her residence on April 24 and began demolition.
She gave him another cashieròòò½ÊÓƵ™s check on May 3 for $5,500, according to the complaint. Then, when she said he requested to change their contract to include an additional $3,000 because of rotten wood, she paid him with another cashieròòò½ÊÓƵ™s check May 1, followed by a personal check for $6,000 on May 23. In total, he was paid $31,500 for the job.
According to the complaint, she said Meadows would change his story about when he could get materials and only worked on site for 15 to 20 hours.
Meadows has not done any work, will not provide the materials and left his tools at the womanòòò½ÊÓƵ™s residence, according to the complaint.
The woman also spoke with a detective in Putnam County, who said Meadows was charged in Putnam County for multiple incidents of false pretenses and that the West Virginia Attorney Generalòòò½ÊÓƵ™s Office is aware of the incidents, according to the complaint.
