HUNTINGTON òòò½ÊÓƵ” The Westmoreland Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) celebrated its 50th anniversary Saturday with a dinner at Venue on Madison.
The event marked the exact birth date of the Westmoreland chapter. Approximately 30 people attended Saturday, April 19, to celebrate the existence of the chapter with food, memories from former regents and awards. State Regent Jane Larke also attended the event.
Stephanie Smith, regent of the Westmoreland DAR chapter, said a highlight of the event was the unveiling of the chapteròòò½ÊÓƵ™s original 1975 charter that was found during an estate sale after many years of its disappearance. The charter is signed by the founding members. It was framed and was put on display for attendees.
The charter had been passed on to the Ceredo Historical Society, which later gave it to the Wayne County Genealogical and Historical Society, which investigated the piece and gave it to the chapter.

The Westmoreland DAR is a service organization of the national Daughters of the American Revolution, a nonprofit organization. The chapteròòò½ÊÓƵ™s mission is to do historic preservation, promote education and patriotism.
The Westmoreland chapter mostly focuses on patriotism through service and events that honor and help veterans such as the annual veteranòòò½ÊÓƵ™s picnic at Harris Riverfront Park, Smith said. Along with providing services in the community, Smith said the Westmoreland DAR chapter is a sisterhood.
Smith said her favorite part of the event was hearing from former regents on their time in the chapter. òòò½ÊÓƵ the current regent, Smith said she has only been in the chapter for three years and is grateful for her members for mentoring her and helping her become a better leader.
The Westmoreland DAR has 35 members, all made up of women who are directly descended from a patriot of the American Revolutionary War.
