CHARLESTON òòò½ÊÓƵ” Travel on the West Virginia Turnpike exceeded expectations during Thanksgiving week, the West Virginia Parkways Authority announced Tuesday.
The estimated number of transactions on the Turnpike was 715,000. The actual number of total transactions was 754,405.
The heaviest travel days were Wednesday, Nov. 27, with 160,934 transactions, and Sunday, Dec. 1, with 257,473 transactions. The least traveled day was Thanksgiving, Thursday, Nov. 28, with 67,724 transactions.
Jeff Miller, executive director of the West Virginia Parkways Authority, said in a news release that vehicles were pushed through the toll facilities more efficiently this year as a result of the stateòòò½ÊÓƵ™s new tolling system, which allowed the agency to run all lanes on E-ZPass/Toll By Plate when backups developed during peak travel times.
Motorists who used the Toll by Plate option have 30 days from the date of travel to go online and pay the toll due.
