HUNTINGTON òòò½ÊÓÆµ” The Cabell County Board of Education will consider possibly releasing Superintendent Ryan Saxe from his contract during a special meeting Wednesday.
The meeting will take place at 1:30 p.m. in the Board Meeting Room at 2850 5th Ave. in Huntington.
On Monday, Berkeley County Schools unanimously voted to appoint Saxe as the superintendent for the district from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2027, with a salary of $198,000 in his first year, $203,940 the second year and $210,058 for the third year, according to a .Ìý
According to the Cabell meeting agenda, if Saxe is released from his contract, his resignation would take effect on June 30, 2024.
The board will also consider appointing a new superintendent whose term would begin on July 1 and would last no less than one year or no more than four years.
Saxe has served as superintendent of Cabell County Schools since he was appointed on July 1, 2017, replacing Bill Smith. His current contract was approved by the Board of Education in 2021 and was originally set to end June 30, 2025.

Since April 2023, the Cabell County Board of Education has been debating use of additional excess levy funds from the 2018 excess levy approved by voters and potential excess levy funding that would go into effect in July 2025.
The new proposed excess levy, which reduced funding for the Cabell County Public library from approximately $1.5 million to $1.37 million and funding for the Greater Huntington Park and Recreation District from approximately $455,000 to $200,000 failed during the May 14 primary election.
Saxe is a Cabell County native but worked in the School District of Manatee County in Florida before returning to West Virginia to serve as Cabellòòò½ÊÓÆµ™s superintendent.
