HUNTINGTON òòò½ÊÓƵ” The small chamber at the Greenup Locks and Dam on the Ohio River has been reopened to recreational boat traffic.
On March 24, the Huntington District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced that the auxiliary (small) chamber would be closed due to damage sustained while passing debris after recent flooding. The emergency gate in the auxiliary is used to pass drift and debris during high water season. At the end of the last flood event, drift got in between the diagonal protection and the diagonal straps and broke loose the lower section.
The damaged sections were removed, and the auxiliary chamber is now available for recreational traffic, the Corps announced Tuesday.
Fishing tournament sponsors must coordinate directly with the lockmaster prior to their event for special instructions, the Corps said.
