CHARLESTON Ƶ To celebrate the 2025 MLK Day of Service on Monday, Jan. 20, Faith in Action of the Greater Kanawha Valley will host three volunteer training sessions.
ƵThese trainings are a great opportunity for people interested in laying a foundation for service they can participate in all year long,Ƶ FIAGKV Executive Director Jennifer Waggener said in a release. ƵAttending a training is an excellent way to learn more about the many free programs offered to our older neighbors, and how you, as a volunteer, can use your time and talents to assist those in need of a helping hand.Ƶ
FIAGKV is a Charleston-based nonprofit organization dedicated to helping seniors ages 60 and older in Kanawha and Putnam counties sustain their independence and remain in their own homes as long as possible. Program volunteers provide free services including transportation to medical appointments, assistance with grocery shopping, telephone reassurance calls and personal outreach efforts.
A small team Ƶ the Honey Do Crew Ƶ performs minor home repairs or maintenance projects with an eye toward safe home environments.
ƵƵ an all-volunteer service organization, FIAGKV is always striving to grow its base of community members willing to reach out to help, neighbor to neighbor,Ƶ Waggener said. ƵOur volunteers have the flexibility to select assignments that fit their schedules and interests. Whether you can drive someone once a month or grocery shop with a senior on the weekend, being an FIAGKV volunteer gives you the chance to make a direct, positive impact on the lives of others with every service performed.Ƶ
Faith in Action of the Greater Kanawha Valley has scheduled three trainings on Monday, Jan. 20, at its offices at 1700 Pennsylvania Ave. in Charleston. Times are 9:30 to 11 a.m., noon to 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 to 6 p.m.
All FIAGKV volunteers are required to attend one volunteer training session prior to serving. The sessions are free and open to the public.
