Winter weather is the theme for this week in Putnam County! In fact, accumulating snow is likely to continue early on your Thursday. Behind our storm system, a round of colder air will stick around and allow for a few more inches of lighter weighted snow to fall. By afternoon, expect highs to struggle in the 20s with mostly cloudy skies and slick ground conditions. Skies clear and winds calm down as a few flurries clear out.
Look for lows to fall to single digits to start off Friday, but the cold Canadian air mass likely keeps us in the 30s with just a few peeks of sunshine to look forward to! Have the winter coat, snow boots, and hats ready as we seem to be stuck in a rather wintry pattern to finish off February.
It may not be a polar vortex on paper, but the higher sun angle may give us a drier weekend! However, cold temperatures are going to stick around. Highs only in the 30s with a mix of sun and clouds for Saturday. At least no major storm system to get in the way of your weekend plans.
Sunday has the better chance to get us above freezing, but a weak, high-pressure ridge will allow for a calm day and only a spotty flurry to deal with.
A series of weak disturbances push in from Canada for the next week. Each system will allow a weak cold front to pass through. A few snow showers, some light snow flurries, and no major disruptions in the pattern. However, this will prevent the high pressure ridging from warming us up all too much. In fact, temperatures may trend below normal after all to close out February!
There are some signs of the 40s and 50s by mid-week, but the real reward may have to wait until March as this wild winter pattern continues!
