After some small relief, the extreme and exceptional droughts continue to expand here in Putnam County. With only scattered shower chances, sunny skies and warm conditions return on your Thursday. Southerly winds allow highs to reach the 80s once again, with a pop-up shower or storm around during the day. However, the rain will be light, and we are still in a severe deficit and now deep into September.
High pressure and a cutoff low-pressure center will be the key features in our weather pattern for Friday. While the low-pressure center is higher up in the sky, it may be too far to our east to bring in major rainfall chances. In fact, our weather looks rather quiet, with highs increasing into the mid and upper 80s as east winds return once again. This may yield a high fire danger for Friday. During dry times like this, a major factor into how dangerous fire can spread often lies in the wind speeds. With a dry-air mass in control along with at least 5 mph east winds, outdoor burning and all open flames should be avoided once again heading into the weekend.
Tired of the summer heat and highs in the 80s? Well, get used to it. òòò½ÊÓƵtronomical fall begins on Sunday, Sept. 22, and it quite honestly will not be feeling fall-like by any means! The warm summer temperatures will continue on, with highs still in the mid 80s both Saturday and Sunday, and no rain chances in sight. We will take the dry weather, but the warmth may be a bit unbearable for some at this point. It will honestly take some tropical moisture or a strong cold front to relieve our concerns, but that does not look to happen for the weekend. Enjoy abundant sunshine, but the lack of rainfall is far from normal at this point.
Some signals of low pressure are in the works heading into Monday, but the positioning of the Bermuda high-pressure center may once again restrict the movement of the developing storm system as it tries to push its way inland. The good news is that just one inland progressing system at this point in September may open up the weather pattern, allowing in more North winds, cooling down temperatures, and providing a track for more cold fronts to enter our region. Hopefully our pattern will start to turn more fall-like heading into October, and perhaps a little cooler and damper as well. Donòòò½ÊÓƵ™t give up on the rain dances just yet!
