CARES Sensory Circus on June 7 at Valley Park
HURRICANE Ƶ Community Autism Resources & Education SystemƵs Sensory Walk to support West VirginiaƵs autistic children and families will have a new feature this year Ƶ the CARES Sensory Circus.
Set for noon-4 p.m. on Saturday, June 7, at Valley Park, the event will feature a Live Circus Stage Show at 12 p.m., followed by the Sensory Walk, and more festivities including:
- Hands-on sensory activities for all ages
- Family friendly games and activities
- Community Resource Fair
- Food concessions and artisan vendors
- CARES merchandise
The Sensory Walk is an Ƶimmersive journeyƵ through thoughtfully-designed stations that offer a glimpse into how our autistic community members may perceive their surroundings Ƶ revealing beauty, wonder, and insight that might otherwise go unnoticed.

Poca River Club host free fun day
POCA Ƶ Poca River Hunting, Fishing, and Recreation Club located at 789 Dupont Road at Poca will be open to the public for a fun day of events June 7 from 10 a.m. to closing. Free to all.
There will be multiple vendors, raffles, kids zone with games, swimming, and live music from 6 to 9 p.m. Activities include an archery tournament, paid fishing tournament, and a side-by-side giveaway with ticket purchase. The Club will have food available on site to eat throughout the day.
Bring your chairs, blankets, swimming gear and fishing rod. Several gun/rifle ranges will be available. This is a great opportunity to see what PRHFRC has available.
Nitro MiniCon set for June 7 at high school
NITRO Ƶ Third Floor Comics will host the 2025 Nitro MiniCon: Comics, Toys and Collectibles Vendor Show on Saturday, June 7.
The event will be in the commons area of Nitro High School, 1300 Park Ave., Nitro, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Vendors will have a fantastic selection of comics, toys, collectibles and pop art.
Admission is free.
PCTC Golf Fundraiser set for June 9
HURRICANE Ƶ The Putnam Career and Technical Center Golf Fundraiser is planned for June 9 at Sleepy Hollow Golf Club in Hurricane.
Entry fee is $500 per foursome. Entry fee includes green fees, cart, door prizes, games, and lunch.
Sponsorship levels are available as well:
- Gold Sponsorship, $1,000: sign at hole with company logo and foursome
- Silver Sponsorship, $500: sign at hole with company logo
- Bronze Sponsorship, $250: Company logo at registration desk
Donations in any amount are also welcome. All proceeds will benefit PCTC SkillsUSA Competitors in state and national competitions.

CAMC Teays offers free sports physicals
TEAYS VALLEY Ƶ The CAMC Teays Valley Outpatient Center at 3948 Teays Valley Road will offer a free sports physical clinic June 7 from 8 a.m. to noon.
Students must bring a sports physical form provided by their school and signed by a parent or guardian. Forms will be available at the clinic, but must be signed by a parent/guardian at the clinic.
Survivors of Suicide support group to meet
HURRICANE Ƶ Just-In-Time Survivors of Suicide support group will hold a weekly meeting every Wednesday at the Putnam County Library, 4219 Ƶ-34, Hurricane, beginning May 28 from 6 to 6:45 p.m.

Backpack Buddies food box packing set
HURRICANE — Teays Valley Church of the Nazarene will host the 2025 Community Packing Day for at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 7, at the church, located at 3937 Teays Valley Road, Hurricane.
Volunteers will pack more than 3,000 boxes of food that will be shipped to local children for summer feeding support.
Volunteers may park at Chapman Funeral Home.
