Teays Physical Therapy Center Inc. and The Putnam Herald are pleased to present this weekƵs Male Gamer of the Week award to Landon Coleman of Poca Track and Field.
Coleman has been a standout performer for Poca Track and Field this season! The senior is currently the top-ranked long jumper in AA with a jump of 21- 2.75, and the second-ranked high jumper with a clearance at 6-3.
When discussing highlights from this season, Coleman pointed to being around the people he is jumping with, teammates, and coaches, as well as his long-jump personal best he set at conference to win the event.
Last season, Coleman won the long jump and placed second in the high jump at the West Virginia State Track and Field Meet.
ƵLandon has been competing for four years. I coached him three years ago and since then, he has had a passion for high jump and long jump. He has been a mentor for some of his teammates in those events. Overall, he is a natural athlete with a good work ethic and just a good kid,Ƶ said head coach Nathan McVey.
Coleman says his dad encouraged him to do track to prepare for football. He started in the distance races, but didnƵt like them, so he switched to hurdles, and then eventually found the jumps, which he really enjoys.
ƵI like the feeling of flying through the air, with all eyes on me,Ƶ Coleman said.
Coleman attributes a lot of his success this season to Coach McVey, who came back this season to coach him. He says itƵs been mostly coaching and determination that has led to his progress this season.
Looking ahead, Coleman says he would like to jump in college and is currently weighing a few options. He says he is undecided on major right now, but is interested in agriculture. Coleman and the rest of the Dots will be back in action Friday and Saturday at the State Track and Field Meet at UC Stadium.
Please look for other local high school athletes to be named in next weekƵs Male Gamer of the Week, sponsored by Teays Physical Therapy Center Inc., and The Putnam Herald.
