CHESAPEAKE, Ohio Ƶ A public meeting regarding rock blasting in Lawrence County is set for Tuesday evening.
The blasting, to make way for Phase 2 of the Chesapeake Bypass, is expected to begin in May and will occur ƵintermittentlyƵ for the life of the project, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation.
A public meeting regarding the blasting operations will be held from 5-6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 29, at Fairland High School, 812 County Road 411, Proctorville, in the gymnasium.
For those unable to access the meeting, additional information can be obtained by contacting Mikaela Bruning, public information officer at ODOT District 9, at mikaela.bruning@dot.ohio.gov or 740-774-8834.
Ground was broken to begin construction of the final segment of the bypass last Tuesday.
It is expected to be completed at the end of 2028. It consists of 6 miles of new roadway between Chesapeake and Proctorville, Ohio.
The project includes the construction of a two-lane highway, with some four-lane sections and truck climbing lanes. There will also be a full interchange at Ohio 775.
A 14-foot-tall concrete noise wall will be placed along the southern edge of the roadway to reduce traffic noise to nearby homes in three areas, including those in the Brentwood Village subdivision near Chesapeake.
