HUNTINGTON Ƶ The Cabell County Board of Education will have its regular meeting Monday, July 1, to swear in the new superintendent and board members, elect board representatives and discuss purchase agreements.
The board will meet at 4:30 p.m. in the board meeting room at 2850 5th Ave.
Tim Hardesty, the former superintendent for Mason County Schools who was appointed in Cabell County during a special meeting June 19, will take his oath of office during the meeting.
The Mason County Board of Education will also have a board at 6 p.m. Monday at 1 Education Lane in Point Pleasant to discuss steps moving forward in the search for a new superintendent.
Linda Childers and Reed Byers, the newly elected board of education members replacing Coy Miller and Alyssa Bond, will also take their oaths of office Monday.
The board will also elect a board president and vice president from one of the five members, each for a two-year term.
According to the board meeting agenda, the superintendent will recommend the approval of the purchase of playground equipment, surfacing and installation at Milton Elementary from Bluegrass Recreation in the amount of about $233,085 to be funded through the general and school funds.
The agenda states Milton Elementary has already raised funds to help support the purchase and installation of the playground equipment. The school has raised about $9,885, and the board will spend $223,200 from the general fund to make up the total amount.
In other business, the board will discuss the approval of ƵPowerful PartnersƵ as part of the School-to-Work Powerful Partnerships program for the 2024-25 school year.

According to family and community engagement facilitator Ƶhley Stephens, Powerful Partners are chosen based on student interest and allow students who receive special education services to participate in Ƶon-site internships to gain authentic experiences and develop skills for employment.Ƶ

The superintendent will recommend the approval of an interagency agreement among the board, Ebenezer Medical Outreach and Cabell Huntington Hospital (Medical Center) to provide experience for students in the Medical Ƶsisting Program for the 2024-25 school year.
The superintendent will also recommend the approval of an agreement between the board and Mountain State ESC to provide nursing services with a nursing coordinator for the LPN program this upcoming school year that will cost the board $137,609 from the state adult education fund.
The board will discuss the approval of an embedded English language arts credit for completers of ProStart beginning with students who will start the program in the 2024-25 school year.
The superintendent will also recommend selling a small parcel of land to the Huntington Sanitary Board, $10 for a pump station, and provide access of easements for a new sewer line pursuant to the schoolsƵ policy 7300.
Stephen Riner, a teacher at Huntington Middle School, will be honored during the special celebrations portion of the meeting for having received a competitive National Endowment for the Humanities fellowship. According to the agenda, this included the opportunity to attend a six-day workshop in Heart Mountain, Wyoming, to learn more about Japanese American incarceration.
Several items will be up for discussion on the personnel agenda, and the superintendent will recommend six students for expulsion.
