President Donald Trump has nominated Moore Capito and Matthew Harvey to be the U.S. Attorneys in West Virginia, Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., announced in a social media post Tuesday.
Moore Capito, son of Shelley Moore Capito, was nominated for the Southern District of West Virginia.

Moore Capito was a member of the West Virginia House of Delegates from 2017 to 2023. He ran for governor in the 2024 election but lost in the Republican primary. He currently works as an attorney at the Pittsburgh law firm , which has an office in Charleston.
In a post on X, Moore Capito said he was grateful for the nomination.

Harvey was nominated for the Northern District of West Virginia.

He has been the prosecuting attorney in Jefferson County since his 2016 election. He is also the chair of the which is distributing opioid settlement funds throughout the state.
Harvey said he also had experience as a defense attorney.
ƵItƵs an opportunity to prosecute cases on a bigger scale and to serve Ƶ a greater number of citizens of West Virginia,Ƶ he said.
Harvey said while his policies and emphasis will come from the federal Department of Justice and Attorney General Pam Bondi, he is hoping to ƵattackƵ drug dealers bringing illicit substances Ƶ including fentanyl Ƶ into West Virginia.
ƵThatƵs the challenge of our generation. ThatƵs the most dangerous thing that West Virginians have faced, and we are making progress in turning the tide on that,Ƶ he said. ƵI want to be able to help finish eradicating fentanyl from West Virginia.Ƶ
Both Capito and Harvey will need to be confirmed by the Senate Judiciary Committee and then the full Senate. Their terms coincide with the term of the president.
