BARBOURSVILLE Ƶ A Milton man died Wednesday after his vehicle was involved in a two-vehicle accident at East Mall Road and U.S. 60. The accident occurred at 10:40 a.m.
West Virginia State Police identified the deceased as Luther Grubbs, 58, of Milton.
Trooper First Class E.A. Blankenship said a witness saw GrubbsƵ vehicle run a stop light at the intersection. It was hit by another vehicle entering the roadway from an adjacent car dealership.
Blankenship said officials believe Grubbs suffered a massive heart attack just before the accident or during the collision. He was pronounced dead at St. MaryƵs Medical Center.
Blankenship described the vehicle damage as being Ƶsurvivable.Ƶ
ƵThe other guy walked away from it,Ƶ he said. ƵCrashes are a weird thing. Some of them you can go do and you think there is no way a person survived it, and theyƵll stand there next to you and tell you what happened. Then you go to ones you think ƵWell itƵs minor damage and just do a quick reportƵ and a person is laying their dead. You just never know. ItƵs a weird phenomenon.Ƶ
Another state trooper, 1st Sgt. A.L. Cummings, was following Grubbs' vehicle when the accident occurred. He told Blankenship that he never witnessed Grubbs apply his brakes.
The other driver was John Speer, 75, of Huntington. He was not cited, Blankenship said.
