HUNTINGTON Ƶ Huntingtonians were once again invited to explore the cityƵs Black History while being guided by local author and educator Cicero M. Fain III on his Trolley Tours Thursday.
Fain is the assistant provost for access and opportunity at Marshall University and the author of ƵBlack Huntington: An Appalachian Story.Ƶ He said itƵs more important than ever for the city, region and nation to ƵelevateƵ Black history.
The Black Huntington History Trolley Tours began in 2022, and Fain has guided participants through the history of prominent local figures, places and events.
This year, the tours began at the Memorial Student Center beginning at 1 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Riders visited the First Baptist Church, Barnett Hospital, Ebenezer Center, the Carter G. Woodson Statue and other historical sites.
The trolley also stopped on 15th Street to view the A.D. Lewis Center and Douglass Junior and Senior High School, a historically Black school named after abolitionist Frederick Douglass.
