BARBOURSVILLE Ƶ The first Highlighter Run 5K, hosted in partnership by HD Media and Prestera Health Services, had 53 participants at the Barboursville Park on Saturday.
Logan Harris, 14, placed first overall with a time of 22 minutes and 19.8 seconds. Coming behind him were Dutch Howanitz, 11, and Jay Howanitz, 45.
Holly Howanitz, 44, placed fifth overall, but was the first female finisher, with a time of 24 minutes and 16.9 seconds. Kate Meek, 19, came in behind her in sixth place, second in female winners, and Gaby Robertson, 15, placed ninth overall, third in female winners.
According to Hilary Gunter, a multimedia sales representative for HD Media, the 5K was organized as a way to bring awareness for mental health, and any donations made on the event website, along with a portion of the proceeds from the event, will go to the Prestera Foundation.
Gunter said this was the first year for the 5K, although HD Media hopes to bring it back next year with vendors and hopefully draw in more participants.
HD Media will also host ƵKiss Alive: The TributeƵ with ƵHair SupplyƵ at the Barboursville Park Amphitheatre on Aug. 3.
On Sept. 21, HD Media will host its annual Corks & Kegs event, also at the Barboursville Park, with wine tastings, vendors and live music. A portion of the proceeds from the event will go to ErmaƵs Angels, a nonprofit that brings awareness to AlzheimerƵs disease and helps to find a cure.
