FORT GAY òòò½ÊÓÆµ” Fort Gay gained a new mayor and a new town council member during the 2025 general town election Tuesday.
Bob Sword won the mayoral race with a total of 63 votes, while his opponents in the race, incumbent Mayor Ralph Dent and Tim Kitts, received a total of 30 and 19 votes, respectively.
The town council race was for all five spots on the council.
In that race, the four incumbent council members who were running òòò½ÊÓÆµ” Greg Cavins, Bobby Daniels, Jamie Frasher and Payton Rowe (William Thompson was not on the ballot) òòò½ÊÓÆµ” got enough votes to keep their seats, and Wilts Salmons got enough votes to join the council.

The candidates on the ballot for the two uncontested races in the 2025 general town election received the following numbers of total votes:
In the municipal judge race: Larry Britt (incumbent) òòò½ÊÓÆµ” 90
In the recorder race: Wade T. Cyrus (incumbent) òòò½ÊÓÆµ” 86
Brenda Osburn, deputy clerk for Wayne Countyòòò½ÊÓÆµ™s Office of Voters Registration, said the town has 398 registered voters, and there were 126 total voters òòò½ÊÓÆµ” or about 32% of registered voters òòò½ÊÓÆµ” who voted in the 2025 election.
Canvassing is scheduled for Monday. Osburn said there are eight provisional ballots to be considered, including four from early voting and four from Election Day.
Cyrus said the four-year terms for those elected begin July 1, 2025.
The town council typically meets at 6 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month.
