HUNTINGTON òòò½ÊÓƵ” The demolition of Marshall Universityòòò½ÊÓƵ™s Holderby Hall is in full swing, as crews started tearing down the upper floors of the building over the weekend.
Demolition crews began working on the first floor of the building Friday, tearing apart the annex, sidewalks and bushes. On Saturday, Director of Communications Leah Payne said, a long arm excavator was used to begin demolition of the top floors.
Holderby Hall, located on 5th Avenue, was formerly co-ed student housing before being decommissioned as a residence hall over five years ago. It was most recently used as office space.
Payne said the excavator will be on-site for the next two weeks while the top level of the building is being demolished. During that time, she said there may be temporary intermittent lane closure on the far left lane of 5th Avenue.
The building may take a total of three to four months to be completely demolished with the materials hauled off-site, Payne said.
Marshall will also be making bricks available from Holderby Hall to anyone interested at no cost. Payne said itòòò½ÊÓƵ™ll be at least two weeks before the bricks can be distributed, but once announced, theyòòò½ÊÓƵ™ll be given out near the demolition site.
The goal of demolition, she said, is to provide more attractive and ADA-compliant student housing.
