HUNTINGTON Ƶ The Cabell County Board of Education will discuss whether to approve several purchases and a couple policy updates among other agenda items during its regular meeting at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Board Meeting Room.
The board will also host a special meeting at the same time Tuesday to review the proposed levy rates for fiscal years 2024 and 2025.
The Board Meeting Room is in the Board of Education office at 2850 5th Ave.
According to the Levy Order and Rate Sheet from the Cabell County Board of Education, the total projected net taxes from the boardƵs regular and excess levies, if the proposed rates are approved, would total $55,136,601 for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2025.
According to the sheet, $30,528,235 of the projected net taxes to be collected would come from the excess levy, while $24,608,366 would come from the current expense levy. The board would also collect $6,669,363 from the bond levy.
During the regular meeting, the board will discuss approval of Superintendent Ryan SaxeƵs recommendation of a lease-purchase agreement with Apple Inc. for hardware and other services. According to the budget, the total purchase amount for the agreement is $6,886,210 financed at 0% interest over 48 months.
The annual payment for the agreement would be about $1,721,552 through the general current expense fund.
Saxe will recommend approval for the purchase of playground equipment, installation and surfacing for Southside Elementary School through Bluegrass Recreation. The project would cost about $407,941.
According to the budget, the school has raised more than $253,541. The board would supplement this fund with $154,400 from its general expense fund.
Saxe will also recommend approval for the purchase and installation of playground equipment through Bluegrass Recreation for Davis Creek Elementary School for a total of $510,846.
According to the budget, the school has raised $315,477, while the board would contribute $98,000, and $97,368 would come from other local funds earmarked for Davis Creek Elementary.
Saxe will recommend the approval of the purchase of a scoreboard and its installation at Huntington High School through Daktronics for a total of $138,028. The school has raised $18,028, and the board would contribute $120,000 from its general expense fund.
In other agenda items, the board is celebrating practical nursing program participants who have successfully completed their year-long program at the Cabell County Career and Technology Center. These students, according to the agenda, all passed the NCLEX exam to earn their nursing license on their first try.
The agenda said each of these students are employed as licensed practical nurses and several are furthering their education to become registered nurses.
The board is also celebrating the year-long program extension for the Cabell Midland High School Air Force JROTC to attempt to reach minimum enrollment requirements. The program was originally slated to be closed at the end of the 2023-24 school year.
The board will also discuss approval for two policy updates, several financial items, including the treasurerƵs report for February, among other items.
