HUNTINGTON òòò½ÊÓÆµ” Local businesses, schools and organizations will light up the city with its best decked-out trucks, cars, boats and trolleys for the annual Huntingtonòòò½ÊÓÆµ™s Christmas Parade of Lights on Tuesday.
The annual parade will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3. Participant are asked to wrap their floats with Christmas lights to celebrate the holiday season. Downtown Huntington Partners treasurer and parade organizer Jennifer Woodall said the parade has 65 floats and approximately 500 people expected to participate.
The parade will start at 4th Avenue and 13th Street and proceed to 8th Street. It will then turn right onto 8th Street and end on 3rd Avenue at 12th Street.
The Huntington Police Department motorcycle unit and honor guard will lead the parade. Parade grand marshals will be Huntington Mayor Steve Williams as a tribute to his service as mayor over the years, and Mayor-elect Patrick Farrell, as a congratulations, Woodall said. The parade will have performances by Wayne High School, Tolsia High School, Spring Valley marching bands and Bridgetòòò½ÊÓÆµ™s Dance Academy.
The parade will also include three decorated boats this year by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Huntington District navigational team, park ranger and Adams Landing Marina. TTA will have two trolleys participate, one with Huntington City Council representatives and Kiwanis Day Care Center children and parents.
Woodall said the parade is a great opportunity to bring in people to the downtown area. The parade will have participants from other communities such as òòò½ÊÓÆµhland and Charleston.
The parade is hosted by Downtown Huntington Partners with the City of Huntington, Cabell County Commission and Dutch Miller Auto Group as sponsors. Downtown streets will be blocked off, primarily on 4th Avenue for the parade, Woodall said.
Downtown Huntington Partners supports small businesses in downtown Huntington. HD Media will livestream the event on Facebook, YouTube and the HD Media app.
