Local health organizations recently released an updated version of the regionƵs to address the substance use crisis and improve overall community health.
The initial plan, created in 2019 and released in 2020, was envisioned as a Ƶpathway to the endƵ for the substance use epidemic in Cabell County, as previously reported by The Herald-Dispatch.
The plan spanned decades and covered short-term goals such as sustaining and expanding harm reduction efforts and treating substance use disorder.
It covered long-term goals such as early intervention methods and reducing compassion fatigue in first responders.
Now, the plan has been updated to reduce the duplication of efforts and improve coordination between all contributing organizations and care providers.
ƵWe felt as though, post-COVID, weƵre living in a very different world,Ƶ said Lyn OƵConnell, associate director of addiction sciences at the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine.
ƵAnd so again, we brought everyone back together in 2024 and had over 60 community members attend the first meeting from sort of all sectors. We met at the health department and worked together to identify what successes we had since the last resiliency plan, and then what things we would want to be focusing on as we move into the future.Ƶ
