Valley Park has spilled the beans Ƶ the first ever West Virginia Coffee Festival is coming to Hurricane this summer.
Beginning at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 28, at the Valley Park Conference Center, 1 Valley Park Drive in Hurricane, the event will feature 12 roasters offering coffee samples to all festival attendees.
ƵThese types of coffee that all the roasters are bringing in, this is not something typically you will find in a K-cup,Ƶ said Bryan Shaw, co-owner with Alek Dailey of Hill Tree Roastery in Huntington, which will be at the event. ƵFor people who really want to try a different type and just a really good quality cup of coffee, this is the place to go.Ƶ
Tickets are $15 and include entry, the free samples and a Ƶ Coffee Festival mug to drink those samples in. Tickets go on sale at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 1. A link to purchase tickets will be posted to the page, the page, and the before ticket sales open, said Ƶhton Mobley, marking assistant with Valley Park, which is helping organize the event.

Of the 12 roasters, 10 are based in West Virginia and two are based in Ohio. They are:

Jacob Tyler, who co-owns Cherry River Roasting Company with his wife, Nikki, said his excitement to be part of the first coffee festival in West Virginia goes beyond meeting potential customers, but also meeting other roasters.
ƵThere hasnƵt been anything like that in West Virginia, but also the roasting, or even the coffee community in West Virginia hasnƵt been super connected prior to this, so itƵs a great opportunity to connect,Ƶ he said.
Coal River Coffee Company owner Michael Ervin said heƵs looking forward to sharing coffee and teaching visitors about how their cups of coffee are made.
ƵMost people look at coffee and just drink it. They buy it off the shelves at the grocery store. But they donƵt realize thereƵs a roaster involved, and before that, thereƵs a farmer,Ƶ he said. ƵCoffee canƵt just be grown anywhere.Ƶ
Several roasters said they plan to bring their top-selling coffees to be sampled and available for purchase. Some highlighted that organic and fair-trade options will be available. Coal River Coffee Company also plans to sell its Recovery Roast, with a portion of the proceeds contributed to a scholarship program for people who have gone through recovery, Ervin said.
While the coffee tastings will be happening inside the Conference Center, there will be vendors set up outside of the complex where anyone can shop, even without a ticket to the festival.
