ƵThis scholarship is a tribute to honor the remarkable journeys of two outstanding men,Ƶ Porter Ƶ a Charleston native and professor of history for 38 years at Washington and Lee University Ƶ said in a news release. ƵMy hope is their dedication and achievements will serve as an inspiration for others to follow in their footsteps.Ƶ
Both McCabe and Van Metre, who are also from Charleston, share a legacy of academic excellence and professional achievement, according to the release.
McCabe graduated from the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine in 1988 and went on to complete an internal medicine residency and nephrology fellowship at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He was in private practice for 25 years at Southeastern Nephrology Ƶsociates in Wilmington, North Carolina, and served five years as chief medical officer at KBP BioSciences, a biotechnology research organization based in Princeton, New Jersey.
