MEETING: General Andrew Lewis Chapter Sons of the American Revolution meets at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 10, at the Galloway Insurance office, 537 9th St. Deborah Sampson, female Revolutionary War soldier, is the topic. A short movie about SampsonƵs life is also presented. The event is free and open to the public.

LEADER: Huntington Regional Chamber of Commerce recently announced individuals named to the third Leadership Huntington Class. Abbigail Davis with COMPASS is one of the 26 for the new class and will attend monthly sessions from September 2025 to May 2026, graduating in June 2026. Congratulations Abbigail on this selection.
LIVE MUSIC: Kindred Communications hosts this 9th Street Live Summer Concert Series with a performance featuring John Inghram. The concert takes place at 7 p.m. Friday, July 11, at 303 9th St. Admission is free.
CHOSEN: During the recent Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the United States of AmericaƵs BPO Elks National Convention conducted in Kansas City, Missouri, a Huntington man was selected to lead the Elks District in West Virginia. Christopher Sean McGlone of Huntington was installed as district deputy for the BPO Elks for lodges in the South District of the West Viginia Elks Ƶsociation. His term lasts one year.

RECOGNIZED: Cabell County Board of Education recently recognized recipients of the 2025 West Virginia Young Writers competition awards and the 2025 PBS KIDS Writers Contest. Winning the Young Writers Award were Genevieve Fleming, who also placed third at the State Young Writers competition, Gemma Reams, Evelyn Perry and Madison Davis. The third-place award for the PBS Kids Contest was earned by Emma Gladwell.

AWARDED: Janet Sheridan and Terri Hagy of Beverly Hills Garden Club presented the clubƵs July Beautification Award to Jamez Morris-Smith and Sam Kincaid of 1624 Holderby Road. Morris-Smith, a resident of this home since 1977, has no formal gardening experience but has gardening in his blood. Not only is the garden full of blooming specimens, but there are also hidden artistic surprises, container gardening with growing vegetables, a sitting area and special area in front garden inspired by a dear friend, Joan.
