SOUTH POINT, Ohio Ƶ A new restaurant is coming to the South Point, Ohio, area.
Construction on the 2,300-square-foot building by contractor continued this week, and the owners expect to open Aug. 20.
ƵThis is a $3 million project,Ƶ said Beckett Gue, who is partnering on the new venture with his brother, Sam Gue.
ƵWe love GuthrieƵs so much because it really is the original, and while many chains may not be willing to take the risk on our communities, we certainly believe so much in the place that spilled into us and raised our family,Ƶ Beckett Gue said.
The new locationƵs menu will offer the following:
- golden fried chicken tenders
- crinkle cut fries
- hearty Texas toast
- cole slaw
- signature GuthrieƵs sauce
- golden fried chicken tender sandwich
- Coca-Cola products
- a 50-year-old sweet tea recipe
The brothers intend to develop six to 10 locations over the next few years.
ƵWe also expect to open Barboursville later this fall in 2024 and Gallipolis, Ohio, shortly thereafter,Ƶ Beckett Gue said.
Beckett Gue said the new restaurant will create approximately 40 new jobs. Sam Gue will serve as the operating partner in the business.
Sam Gue is superintendent of the South Point Local School District. He will leave that post in mid-July, Beckett Gue said. His wife, Maggie, owns The Hip Eagle, a boutique at The Market in Huntington. Sam Gue graduated from Chesapeake High School and Marshall University.
Over the past five years, Beckett Gue has developed Express Oil Change & Tire Engineers locations in Barboursville; Portsmouth, Ohio; and New Albany, Ohio. He graduated from Chesapeake High School and the University of Tennessee.
Beckett Gue said the new restaurant will also be involved in the community.
ƵSam, myself and our entire team will be rallying behind our first responders, community leaders, teachers and administrations, and we intend to be heavily involved in supporting our local school districts,Ƶ he said.
ƵAdditionally, because of our faith, we will operate the business with a core value set to guide our team morally and principally.Ƶ
Beckett Gue said GuthrieƵs Chicken began in 1965 in Haleyville, Alabama. In 1978, it shifted its focus primarily to chicken fingers.
Beckett Gue said the chain has grown to include close to 100 stores across the United States, with plans for further expansion.
ƵOur focus will be on serving customers fresh, hot and fast,Ƶ he said. ƵExpeditious drive through service with dine-in seating.Ƶ
New Starbucks at South Point expected to open in October
Across the road from the GuthrieƵs Chicken restaurant, construction continued last week on a new expected to open in October.
In April, RPG Management, a family-owned company located in Racine, Ohio, said it had started construction on the new Starbucks location.
The new Starbucks is just off Sandusky Road, which is near the new Aldi store that moved from Huntington at the end of last year.
Fuel Counter to close Putnam County location
On Tuesday, the Fuel Counter announced on its Facebook page it will close its Hurricane location in Putnam County.
The last day of operation will be Friday, according to the post.
ƵDespite overcoming numerous challenges over the years, the current economic climate has made it increasingly difficult to sustain the rising costs of operation. After much consideration, the decision to close the Hurricane location was made to prioritize the financial stability of our family-owned business,Ƶ the post said.
Fuel Counter is owned by Jennifer and Xavier Staggs.
The post urged customers to visit the Huntington location at The Market and its location in Barboursville.
