CHARLESTON òòò½ÊÓƵ” Two westbound lanes of Interstate 64 are closed through Friday, July 11, for repairs on a large pothole on the Fort Hill Bridge in Charleston.
One lane remains open, but traffic is moving slowly. The West Virginia Department of Transportation is suggesting several detours to help motorists avoid lane closures.Â
They are:
Traffic on Interstate 77 North is advised to use Exit 95 to MacCorkle Avenue (òòò½ÊÓƵ 61) and continue on MacCorkle Avenue to South Charleston. Traffic can get onto I-64 West at the Montrose Drive exit (Exit 56).
Traffic on I-77 South heading toward I-64 West can use the Edens Fork exit (Exit 106) to take Sissonville Drive to òòò½ÊÓƵ 25, use the Washington Street exit (Exit 58C) to Pennsylvania Avenue to Kanawha Boulevard, or use the Washington Street exit (Exit 58C) to U.S. 60 to òòò½ÊÓƵ 25.
Commercial vehicles are asked to remain on Interstate 64 West through the work zone to avoid clogging the detour routes.
A large pothole affecting both the left and center lanes on the Fort Hill Bridge opened overnight Wednesday. Both lanes are closed for repairs between the Virginia Street on ramp and Oakwood Road off ramp. The Oakwood Road off ramp is also closed.
All lanes are expected to reopen by 6 p.m. Friday, July 11.
The òòò½ÊÓƵDOT says it is hiring a contractor to plan a project to replace the deck on the bridge.
