HUNTINGTON Ƶ Taco Fest is returning to Huntington for the third year in a row. Event organizer Bleu-gotti Young said he hopes the Taco Fest is a fun Ƶ and affordable Ƶ family affair.
ƵI wanted to kind of change the way the Tri-State looks at festivals because West Virginia Ƶ mainly itƵs a place where families are,Ƶ Young said. ƵEvery year I see these festivals and fairs and different things they do, some of them will have like rides and stuff for the kids, but you got to pay to get in, then you gotta pay per ride Ƶ It ends up being a real big cost for like a family of four by the end of the day.Ƶ
Young said that after he calculated the cost of attractions for the Taco Fest, he realized that people organizing other festivals are making a lot of money. ThatƵs why he made entry free for kids 12 and under. For those older than 12, entry is $10. Tickets can be purchased in or at the gate.
The shows from the Cincinnati Circus and rides are free with entry. Circus showtimes are at 12:30, 2:30 and 6:30 p.m. There is a Taco Eating Contest at 3:30 p.m. for two separate age groups, adults and children. There is also a raffle for a five-day Carnival cruise.
There will be at least 15 food vendors, many of them selling more than just tacos. Each food vendor will have at least one menu item inspired by a taco, nachos, burrito or quesadilla. For example, Young said Hibachi Express is planning to have sushi burritos and AustinƵs Homemade Ice Cream Truck will have ice cream nachos.
Young said they ran out of tickets at 5,000 last year. He is hoping for a turnout of at least 3,000 to 4,000 people this year. The event is at Harris Riverfront Park from noon to 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 19.
